Final Project

Fairmont Easel is a family owned and operated art studio in the heart of Fairmont, WV. The studio offers individual and group painting and drawing lessons. The studio has been in operation for over 20 years and is seeking your advice about websites. They currently do not have a website, but want to draw in more business with a website.

Fairmont Easel has a family member that is a graphic designer, but they have hired you to analyze websites. They want two examples of excellent websites and one example of an ineffective website. They do not want Fortune 500 website comparisons. The comparisons do not need to be of the same business type (art studio).

Create a formal report to give to Fairmont Easel with your findings.

1. Find and analyze two effective websites and one ineffective website (a total of three websites). These cannot be Fortune 500 companies.

2. Determine: What made the effective websites effective? (Ease of use, colors, layout, interactive items, videos, etc.)

3. Determine: What made the ineffective website ineffective? (Difficult to use, colors, layout, lack of interactive items, no videos, etc.)

4. Research current trends in website development and determine elements Fairmont Easel should incorporate. (Cite your sources.)

5. Research web browsing trends (hours on the internet, why consumers use websites, the impact of websites) and look for statistics.

Your report should have:

1. Title page with your name, name of the report, and date (due date of December 1, 2014)

2. Table of Contents (include executive summary, content sections, graph (s), research, works cited)

3. Executive Summary (an overview of your findings: 1 – 3 paragraphs in length)

4. Content – This is the bulk of your report. Include your determining factors and conclusions to all of the information above. Be sure to indicate sections of the content: effective websites, ineffective website, research conclusions, trends, conclusion, etc. (The content should be 3-5 pages.)

5. Works Cited page – at least three sources

6. Chart -The chart can be either a bar graph or a pie chart with statistics you found on web browsing trends. Be sure to cite your source(s). Your chart should have a title and a legend.

Format of the report:

1. All of the content should be single spaced with no indentions.

2. Pages should be numbered.

3. Refer to pages 305-314 of your textbook for a formal report example. However, your report will not have a letter of transmittal and your layout will need to be in the order above. The background section would be limited to your creativity.

You must submit a file under Blackboard’s assignment area for the course regarding your choice of the three websites you will be using for your final project. The Final Project Permission Assignment is due on Monday, November 10th by 1:00 p.m. NOTE: This date has changed since the beginning of the semester.

Your rough draft of the assignment (should have at least three paragraphs of content at this point) will need to be printed and brought to class on Monday, November 17th in order to receive credit for attendance this day.

The final project is due on Monday, December 1, 2014 by 11:55 p.m.
