PART 4: ANALYSIS OF STUDENTS’ WRITING

A. Context and Content

Ideally you have two examples of students’ work on the assignment you analyzed in part 3.

In this part, you need to analyze these examples.

Write a short paragraph for each example paper. Tell what specific topic the student wrote

about or how he/she approached the assignment. Tell how well you think the paper fulfilled

the instructions and purpose of the assignment.

B. Outline of each paper

Make a ½ page outline for each paper.

C. Outside sources in each paper

Write a short paragraph for each paper to tell how many outside sources were used and

how and why the student used them.

If neither of the papers used outside sources, tell why they did not. You may need to refer

back to your answer for Section C of Part 3.

D. Comparison of the papers

Write a one-paragraph comparison of the two papers. You need to explain why one is a

better example for the assignment than the other. In as much detail as possible,

explain why one paper would receive a higher grade than the other. You should use

the following criteria for evaluation:

1. Did the paper provide the required content? Was the paper creative?

2. Was the paper clearly organized?

3. Were outside sources used appropriately and effectively?

4. Were the paragraphs and sentences clearly written?

4. Was the paper carefully edited for punctuation, grammar, and spelling?
