Your community should be the area where you live or work. This should be one or two paragraphs. ? Demographic and epidemiological data: Compile a range of demographic (population description) and epidemiological (causes of health problems and death) data for your community by examining census reports, vital statistic reports, city records, morbidity and mortality reports, and other agency sources. Using these data, describe the community and the problem. Compare your community data to state or national data. This comparison will help to identify a community health problem specific to your community. A summary of these data should be no more than one page. ? Windshield survey: Provide a brief summary of the findings from your first assignment. Make sure to discuss elements that link your observations to your identified problem. According to www.census.gov , New York is the most mixed multicultural city in the US, with an estimated 8,405,837 (2013) people who live in the city, (slightly increased since 2012 that was 8,344,367,and up from 8,175,273 in 2010 and 8.0 million in 2000 and 7.3 million in 1990). There is around 44 % of Caucasian people that live in New York make, African American - 25.5 %. Children under 5 years old are 6.3%, and people over 65 years old - 12.1 %(2012). According to www.census.gov (2014), the people who have high school diploma or higher level of education making 79.4 %, while 34.1% have BSN degree or higher. Based on the information from census website in 2014 there are 3,371,062 housing units in New York, with 33.1% are homeowners. In such a big city the average travel time to work is almost 40 min. New York City is one of the most multicultural cities in the US were 36% are foreign-born. An environmental concern in the city is the major problem due to mass transit that mostly in use by the New York residents. The gasoline consumption and pollution has the highest the national average rate. Lung disease is a common problem in the city. A lot of people suffer from asthma, COPD and emphysema. The most common health problem in New York is: obesity, heart disease, diabetes, stroke, kidney disease, cancer and injuries".
