Network Description – Huffman Trucking Company
Huffman Trucking Company is a $1B nationwide trucking company with facilities in Cleveland, Ohio (home office), Los Angeles, CA; St. Louis, MO; and Bayonne, NJ.
There are a total of seven (7) network diagrams for Huffman.
1) The overview diagram, which shows the mesh network interconnecting all the Huffman facilities. That network is a full mesh WAN, running an OC-2 encrypted, fiber based dedicated VPN.
2) Ohio Corporate Office: Administration: includes connections for
a) Executive offices
b) Marketing
c) Sales: both inside and outside
d) HR
e) Accounting
3) Ohio Corporate Office: Corporate IT Operations
a) Mainframe based, blade based internally, and heavily using virtualization to handle multiple OSs that are needed.
b) Onsite 64TB NAS system.
c) The communications systems handle the OC-2 VPN connections, and also the OC-1 link to the Internet.
d) VOIP phones are use throughout the company.
e) A 50 KVA UPS system provides battery backup for the entire IT operations room.
f) The whole company runs a complete SAP ERP system: all financials, CRM, inventory management, HR, etc. Additionally the trucking operations function has dedicated software, which will be discussed in the next section.
4) Ohio Corporate Office: Trucking operations.
a) The trucking operations are broken down into the main functions that are needed:

i) MTC Fleet Maintenance Pro 12; applications SW package
c) Warehousing:
i) Dedicated applications SW package for warehouse management
ii) Every operations employee will be issued a Motorola MC9090 Bar code/ RFID scanner and a Motorola RDV2080D 2-way radio.
d) The Traffic and Dispatching function to manage and keep track of the trucks on the road.
i) Dedicated application SW package for traffic management
ii) Every truck will have installed a Motorola VC 6096 fixed mounted computer terminal and a satellite locator and monitoring/comm system.
5) Remote Administration: all remote facilities are identical
