Module #8 Assignment - page 2

IMPORTANT STEP -- Complete the following by Saturday evening:

Research Step #6 – Two tiered outline—main points and sub points—of your research paper’s Main Question. Refer to Module #8 Notes and Slideshow 8A for the format of this outline and what it should contain:

· Put the Main Research Question at the top of the page.

· Section questions as main points – first tier of the outline

· Body paragraphs as sub points – second tier of the outline

Post this work in your group blog under “Research Step #6 – Paper Outline”

RECOMMENDATION: Do the work in a WORD file. I have given you an outline template below that you can use for your work.

HINT: Copy and paste the completed outline into your blog using your key board –

Select the table—CONTROL A, then - copy CONTROL C; paste CONTROL V

NOTE: At this point you might be guessing what this outline looks like. You should know what your main research question and section questions are. BUT you may need to guess the themes of each of your body paragraphs. This outline is a wish list of what each section should contain – even if you do not have all of the information yet. The outline will identify what areas you need to continue to find material.

All outlines are different and the template below is just a suggestion. One section may contain four BPs and another, 6 BPs. It depends on what you need to answer the section question. Use the template below to write your outline. See next page

NOTES:

· You can write out each body paragraph theme as a topic sentence or a focused question. This will get you started on actually writing the paper.

· There are different numbers of body paragraphs in each section; this is just a template and cannot determine how many BPs you will use in each section of your paper. Use what you need from this template. There should be at least three body paragraphs per section.

· Feel free to use this table as a template for your outline. But paste only the outline into your Blog Space

Comment on one peer outline from your study group. Use the “Comment” section in that student’s blog containing the outline. Use the following criteria to help your fellow student with her/his work:

· Is each Section Question—main point—related to the main research question?

· Are there enough or too many section questions. Two or three questions are best for an eight page paper.

· Examine the sub points under each Section Question. These sub points identify the theme of the body paragraphs for that section of the paper. Does each body paragraph theme relate to the Section Question? Is it written as a topic sentence?

NCLUDE RESEARCH QUESTION HERE - DO SO IN ALL WORK - THIS GIVE YOU AN OPPORTUNITY TO RE-DRAFT THAT QUESTION AS YOUR RESEARCH ADVANCES --

Effects of minimum wage:

#case1: distribution on family incomes- NOT SURE WHAT THIS COVERS - CAN THINK IN TERMS OF A BP ANSWERING A FOCUSED QUESTION THAT IS DEVELOPED USING AT LEAST TWO SOURCES TO ANSWER

The main objective and basic goal of a national minimum wage floor is to increase the level of income of the lower class and the poor in the society. - <<<NOT A CLEARLY STATED TOPIC SENTENCE -- THIS IS THE OBJECTIVE OF A POLICY -- BUT WHAT IS THE FOCUSED GOAL OF THIS BP?      However estimates on of the employment effect on minimum wage does not elaborate on whether the policy is about to achieve the main goal.<<<THIS SEEMS MORE LIKE A TOPIC SENTENCE -- OF COURSE "THE GOAL" OF THE POLICY NEEDS TO ALSO BE ANALYZED     Even if t E unemployment effects of minimum wage are too modest; the increase in minimum wages could result in net losses in income for the poor and the less income families. DO NOT UNDERSTAND THIS NEXT STATEMENT -- A BODY PARAGRAPH DOES NOT INCLUDE YOUR INTENTIONS -- THIS SEEMS MORE LIKE A RESEARCH STEP STATEMENT THAN SOMETHING THAT WOULD BE IN A BP >>> In this research I present sufficient evidence on the effects of the minimum wages on average family income from surveys (Peterson, Stewart& American Enterprise Institute for Public Policy Research, 1969). Using non parametric estimates of the average distribution of family incomes in relativity to the needs in situations and states with and without the minimum wage increase. Aalthough the level of minimum wages increase GOES UP ? increases the level of income of poor families ,the overall evidence indicating that the effects are to increase the level of the families that are poor and near-poor  and decrease the proportion of income between the level of one and a half to three (1.5-3)  of the poverty levels CAN YOU STATE THIS IN CLEARER LANGUAGE - IS THIS A BP OR A RESEARCH STEP

#case2: level of unemployment

The overall and main objection to minimum wage laws is the fact that some workers will lose their current jobs.  <<<WHO IS OBJECTING?  CAN YOU STATE THAT THIS IS A POSSIBLE EFFECT?        WHO IS THE "WE" IN THIS SENTENCE? >>> As a proposition we induce the general guidelines and conditions. As we increase the level of the minimum wage will mean that most companies and business organizations will tend to reduce the level of expenses as a function of the income. <<<WHO ARE YOU CITING?    DEFINE TERM >>>  The argument that every monopsony will find it extremely profitable to increase the level of employment in relation to the minimum wage regulation  which is exactly analogous to the overall argument that every monopoly will find it very profitable to enlarge output in relation to the maximum price regulations. <<<RELATE PRICE REGULATIONS TO THIS TOPIC OF WAGES      As the laws increase the level of the minimum wage, this will generally mean that the company’s assets and liabilities will have to be balanced which will mean that to reduce the level of what the company is spending it will have to reduce what its spending on its operation . The economic literature on minimum wages is longstanding and vast. (Neum, 2008) provide an in-depth review of the field, which continues to be characterized by disagreement on how a minimum wage affects employment. The majority of recent studies,  SEEMS TO BE CUT OFF - NOT SYNTHESIZED - TOPIC SENTENCE DOES NOT FOCUS ON THE THEME OF THIS BP - WHICH IS ON BUSINESS REACTION TO MINIMUM WAGE GOING UP - INCORRECT CITING FORM

Following (Card & Krueger, 2005) use difference-in-differences comparisons to evaluate the effect of these policies on employment levels. It thus goes without saying that the two topics picked brings on a serious discussion on the laws and legislation effects on the minimum wage issue. WHAT IS UNDERLINED TERM - MUST DEFINE BUSINESS TERMS FOR THE LAY READER AS YOU GO ALONG

Main research question: The rising effects of the current Minimum wage. NOT A QUESTION

SHOULD BE IN FORM OF A PAPER NOT IN A TABLE

Rationale:

Explanation for choosing this topic

The research topic in this context is the effect of the minimum wage. This is an issue raising much interest in all fields of study. This topic was chosen since it has brought diverse effects and miserable effects to say so, on various crucial fields such as family income, employment and also increasing the federal minimum wage which affects the federal overall budget for the government. It’s a pressing issue in the society that needs to be addressed in form of making sure the current working situation is able to maintain the society. This research topic was chosen by the researcher after doing a serious CRITIQUE?  critic on how the society struggles with upholding their level living with the little income being brought to the table according to research by (Card & Krueger, 1995). THIS IS NOT A BP BUT AN ARGUMENT FOR WRITING THE PAPER -

YOU DO NOT REFER TO THE BUSINESS SIDE OF YOUR ANALYSIS WHICH IS REFLECTED IN MODULE #7 ASSIGNMENT

Main Research Question and three sub questions & paper basic organization.

Basically the main question we will tackle in this research is “effects of minimum wage”. <<<NOT A QUESTION     This topic is quite a great block to many national and states governments and various businesses and organizations. It’s thus an issue of quite an interest to investors and employers in general. WILL YOU BE INVOLVED WITH POLITICS ALSO - THIS WOULD BE TOO MUCH TO HANDLE   To tackle this issue we develop three topic questions to bring us to our research and the basics.

1. What is the effect of the minimum wage on the level of employment or unemployment in the economy? THIS IS YOUR OVERALL QUESTION -- NOT A SECTION QUESTION

2. Are the set minimum wage legislations fair and are the acts put henceforth bringing solutions to this pressing issue? NOT A CLEARLY STATED FOCUSED SECTION QUESTION

3. How does the minimum wage affect family income distribution in average living persons in the community? DO YOU HAVE SOURCES THAT LINK FAMILY ISSUES WITH COMMUNAL ISSUES

YOU NEED TO RE-THINK THESE THREE SECTION QUESTIONS IN CONNECTION WITH THE BODY PARAGRAPH THEMES THAT YOUARE FINDING -- SEE MODULE #7 WORK IN WICH YOU WRITE ABOUT THE EFFECT ON BUSINESS -- HOW BUSINESSES RESPOND TO RAISES IN MINIMUM WAGE - WHERE DOES THAT GO IN THIS PAPER ???

Similarly we will look at how various countries laws for minimum wages have contributed to various controversies in employee-employer relationship.<<,WHICH COUNTRIES?  IF THAT IS A FOCUS IT NEEDS TO BE REFLECTED IN THE SECTION QUESTIONS    Knowing the primary goal of a national minimum wage value is to increase the income from the poor families with the minors and members in the workforce using a non-parametric analysis. <<<THE SORT OF ANALYSIS IS NOT THE SAME AS WHAT IS BEING ANALYZED AND I DO NOT SEE THIS THEME OF EFFECT ON POOR FAMILIES IN GENERAL IN YOUR SECTION QUESTIONS

YOU MEAN YOU WILL We will also review the laws governing the minimum age and compare with the basic living of a poor family to determine whether the laws are to the benefit or not to the poor and minor. We also determine and examine available options for increasing minimum wage according to various budget articles. DO NOT SEE THIS REFLECTED IN THE SECTION QUESTIONS

Basically.

For both methods of analyzing the situation, theoretical and econometric, we tend to place the argument in such a way that the effect of minimum wage should be more apparent in in the new employment growth than in the level of employment. <<<DO NOT UNDERSTAND THIS STATMENT    OR THIS - AND WHY DO YOU PROPOSE ANY SIMULATION AS THIS IS NOT WHAT THIS PAPER IS SUPPOSED TO DO -- I AM NOT FOLLOWING YOUR APPROACH BASED ON THE GOALS OF THIS COURSE >>>  We also in addition need to conduct a simulation that will show the common practices of including the state specific time trends will divert or attenuate the diversity of the measured effects of the minimum wage on employment if the true effect is in fact on the rate of the job growth. We will also embark on the economic literature on minimum wages according to (Neumark & Wascher, 2008). From recent studies from economists e.g. (Card & Krueger, 1994) we will compare and evaluate the effects of such policies for minimum wage and on the level of unemployment. WHY USE THE "WE" FORM -- IT SOUNDS LIKE YOU ARE A TEAM OF WRITERS -- CONFUSING

Research Strategy

To answer these questions, we site our research to various works of various economists on the issue of minimum wages and their effects in the various issues in the economy. Such journals are amongst others “effects of minimum wage on employment dynamics. (Jonathan Meer, Jeremy west , 2013), (Neumark and Wascher , 2008) and (Card & Krueger , 1994).Other research facilities dealing with economics problems will also be referred to such as library references, newspaper articles, and the situation at hand in the current economy.
