PROV 105-American Cultures

Final Project: Summary of Source

Instructions and Evaluation Checklist

TASK : Write a 250-300 word summary of an article, video or audio source from the “List of Approved Sources” that is related to your topic. Remember, this is a summary of what someone else has said or written. You do not have to agree, but you are NOT to write about your opinion for this assignment. You are to report on the information provided which includes the ideas and/or opinions of others.

SPECIAL NOTE: Group members must collaborate to ensure that they have selected sources to summarize that provide breadth and depth of knowledge about the topic and the current issue, argument, or debate being investigated. Not doing so may affect your entire project grade as the information you present in your final multimedia PowerPoint must demonstrate a deeper understanding of the co-culture studied and a multicultural perspective of a current argument or debate.

INSTRUCTIONS:

1. Take notes while reading, viewing, or listening to the source. Identify:

a. Main idea(s)

b. Supporting ideas

2. Re-write (paraphrase) these ideas in your own words.

a. Do not give YOUR opinion! You are summarizing what the author had to say about this topic.

3. Write a summary that has an introduction, a body, and a conclusion. Read the Evaluation and Instructor Comments Form (see next page) to find out what you need to include in each section of your summary. If you do not include the required information that is listed on this form, you will likely not receive a passing grade on this assignment.

4. Follow the template and formatting guidelines provided earlier this semester in the Personal Essay assignment. Not doing so will negatively affect your grade.

5. Include a complete reference of the source in APA format. Put this at the END of your summary.

6. Submit your assignment on Bb using Safe Assign.
