By-stander behavior is an important topic within the study of prosocial (helping) behavior, and we will start our discussion by applying the well-known and respected by-stander research of Latane and Darley to this scenario: It is a rainy and moonless night, and as you drive along a dark and slick road, you come upon a car that has slid off the road into the ditch. A woman is standing outside the car waving frantically. According to the Latane and Darley model, what would happen next now that you have noticed the woman?
