book review
In the book “The Tao of Pooh,” by Benjamin Hoff. It is a book that tells small stories about Taoism in which they use the characters of Winnie the Pooh for these stories. Each chapter they talk about different stories about Taoism but, they all connect to each other since they all believe about Taoism and know that it is a religion. Each chapter has its unique stories, for example, in chapter four they talk about mostly how they like nature and so they can not change nature since they believe that you should be in peace with nature. Another example would be in chapter nine they talk about simplicity and wisdom, and how listening to a wisdom advice is a good thing. Over all I think that the book is good. And that it is because I feel that each chapter shows the different characteristics of Taoism and how it is shown in every chapter as a different story, but still it has the same meaning. I feel that the author does achieve his goals and that it is because he gives very good examples in the book about Taoism and every chapter has its only little story about Taoism but they relate to one another. I do recommend that other people read this book because I feel that if your don’t know anything about Taoism this book will help you learn more about the religion as well and understanding their believes.
In the book each chapter represents a small story of the main principles of Taoism using the characters of Winnie the Pooh. Some of the chapters that got more of my attention would be, chapters one, eight, and nine. In chapter one is pretty much a brief summary of what Taoism is and the characteristics about Taoism as a religion. They mostly talk about how people should be happy by the laws of heaven and not the laws of a men in which is as the people that live in this world and we always make up laws. They also explain that Taoism means “the way”, meaning been in touch with nature as well as been in peace with yourself and the person that you are. They also refer in this chapter that humanity is seen as an aspect of life.
In chapter eight they mostly focused on the person that does not over think stuff or gets stress about things that are going on around them. And mostly does people are the ones that tend to find answers. One example would be that in the book they were looking for the Eeyore tail and the owl who is the most intelligent one was making a big deal that they couldn’t find the tail, in another hand Pooh was just not worried about the tail at all and he found the tail with out stressing out about it.
In chapter nine they mostly focused about listening to the voice of simplicity and wisdom, meaning the knowledge and cleverness are not always the best things. Sometimes the simple stuff of or being you is the smartest thing to do. Sometimes been so knowledgeable is not always the best thing in Taoism.
The book “ The Tao of Pooh” is a very simple book to read and understand the stories about Taoism. This book is based on the learning of the religion in Taoism and how each chapter has its own little story but yet they come together with each and every one of them. They talk about falling the voice of simplicity and wisdom, they also talk about the person that less tends to worry are the ones that are most intelligent and tend to fine answers. They also talk about the teachings the negative to the positive. I think that this book is a very helpful and learning book, and that it is because if you don’t know anything about Taoism this book helps you learn and understand this religion in a simple way.
