Project Information

The enterprise I’ve chosen for system integration is Target Corporation. Target Corp is the US’s #2 discount chain (behind Wal-Mart). The corporation operates some 1,925 Target and Super Target Stores across North America, as well as an online business at Target.com Target and its larger grocery carrying incarnation, Super Target have carved out a niche by offering more upscale trend-driven merchandise than rivals Wal-Mart and Kmart. Target also issues its proprietary Target Credit Card, good only at Target. The company is growing its grocery business by remodeling and expanding stores and has even entered foreign markets like Canada.

Seeing how Target is such a huge corporation there is a need to integrate all of the systems the company currently uses. Below is a list of technical needs that will be met by the project:

· Maintain or improve the competitive position against other corporations

· Perform a business function more efficiently

· Take advantage of a new business opportunities

· Proper recording of its material activities and transaction

· Proper maintenance and auditing of these records

· Proper access to them by the authorized parties

· Restore confidence in their security system

· Better Website Integration

Major systems that will need integration

· Integration of security system (recently compromised to the point that credit card as well as personal information was taken from Target consumers)

· Integration of inventory & price items to website (Product interface)

· Payment Processing system for Customers

· Logistic of Store Vendors

· Ordering Items from Vendors

· Payment to Vendors

Project will not address the following:

· User interaction to website

· The project really only applies to the technological side of the company, this does not include any other department.

Capstone Project Plan

System Integration Best Practices

The best practices that will be used for the system integration are:

Integrated Security: Integrated security is the best approach that the user uses to protect their system and their personal, and customers’ personal information such as Bank account, Credit cards or any sensitive information that should be confidential. This integrated security is involve with the following defending system or software that the network user should be include in their network, personal computer or any other network related to protect themselves from the attacker. Some of this defending software is free and some are cost money, but it worth it to have it to protect you from the criminals or internet thieves.

Firewall: This is including in the window and can be uses for free to protect your network. This also can turn on in the control panel

Window defends: This also includes in the window OS and the user can turn it on in the Control panel.

Network authentication: This is the best way to protect your network again the unauthorized person to gain the access to your network. This also eliminates the unwanted user to access to your network and protect your personal data from the network thieves.

System authorization:  This method only allow the person who have the authorize access to gain the control to your system and eliminate any unauthorized to access to the system to reach the sensitive data or confidential data.

Confidentiality: To set this up, any data that set with this command are only authorize by the authorize user access, and it cannot reach out to the public, this is the best way to protect the business confidential to come out to the public.

Another best practice is the migration strategy and implementation approach. This approach is somewhat safe in so far as the fact that it takes into account the need to make sure that all equipment and software is up to the task of being assimilated into a more modern system that handles even larger volumes of information in most cases (Cummins, 2002). The only drawback and this is true for any sort of migration plan is that failure is possible more when care is not taken to insure that the proper steps are taken as the project advances through its stages.
