Answer any three (4) of the following questions for 25 points each. Answers should be as comprehensive and succinct as possible, and should demonstrate mastery of the subject material:

1. What made possible the birth of civilization? And do you believe that civilization could have begun earlier, or been delayed? And why?

2. Describe and analyze the differences and similarities between the ancient Mesopotamian and Egyptian religions. Give some illustrations and be sure to discuss the meaning of mythopoeic religion (or natural religion) as pertaining to Mesopotamia and Egypt.

3. What were the connections if any between Hebrew political history and the development of Hebrew religion? Was religion used as a prop to support the Hebrew state?

4. What contributions did the Greeks make to Western Civilization? For example, what was specifically Greek that contributed to the advance of civilization, and why could this be considered a breakthrough? Or not if you disagree?

5. Who contributed more to the development of Greek science, Aristotle or Plato? Be sure to present a coherent argument with illustrations.
