General Scorecard Explanations
· I chose these criteria because they were both the easiest and therefore most accurate data to gather. Additionally I thought they were the most relevant criteria to my decision making process.
· Rankings go from the highest number being the best perceived value and lowest being the worst.
· The supplier with the highest overall score will be considered the best option.
· A ranking of 0 simply means that supplier doesn’t offer the item in question.
· Cotton’s scale goes to 6 because there are 6 suppliers of cotton. Nylon’s scale goes to 5 because there are 5 suppliers of nylon.
Explanation of category ranking assignments
· Unit Price rankings are selected with the lowest price being the best value and highest being the worst value.
· Availability of discounts was ranked based on my personal perceived value of the offers.
· A higher percentage discount represents a better value.
· A lower minimum units required represents a higher probability of the discount applying and therefore a higher value.
· Lower required lead time means the overall production cycle is shorter and therefore represent a better value
· Quality was ranked with the highest quality representing the best value and the lowest representing the worst value.
· Reliability was ranked with the highest quality representing the best value and the lowest representing the worst value.
Weighting System
· The weighting system adds up to 1, aka 100%. So the different weightings represent how much of a percentage each category is worth to the overall score.
· I chose to weight price and reliability a bit higher than the other two because it is important to me to have the materials shipped on time to keep a proper schedule running, and also keep costs down.
