Working through these labs, I feel it has been a great hands-on experience and practice in implementing and operating a Cisco network that includes real switches, and routers. I feel these labs with help me with my future endeavors within my field of work. I also have gained experience hands-on experience and practice in implementing and operating a simple Cisco network that includes real switches, routers, and remote access technologies.

Preliminary Discussion

This experiment is similar to the VLAN experiment that we did during Week 4, and again a brief discussion of the devices being used and their purposes within the experiment may help you better understand the implementation. Refer to the diagram below.

As you can see, the network is constructed with two Ethernet switches and two routers. Again, as we’ve seen in other experiments, some of the routers are being used to simulate hosts. In this diagram, NYEDGE1, NYWAN1, and NYACCESS1 act as hosts, and NYEDGE2 is acting as their default gateway. Notice that NYCORE1 has three interfaces that are configured for VLAN membership and one interface configured as a trunk. By studying NYCORE1, you can determine which VLAN connected devices are members, and by observing the address configuration of devices connected to these ports you can determine the address pool used by members of each VLAN. This information will be helpful in answering the questions that are posed later in the experiment.

Task 2, Step 1: After you have completed the process of creating the VLANs and assigning the ports to them, exit to the previleged mode prompt and enter the command:

show vlan brief
