Title: Video games

Specific Purpose: the main purpose of this essay is to reveal the effects, challenges and solutions of video games to the children.

Central Idea: Effects, challenges and solutions experienced while watching video games.

Introduction

1.  Grab attention: First, we all know how technology today has become important in our lives. Technology is good and bad at times. It does affect people in a bad way especially the children because they do not have enough experience in life to know what is bad for them and therefore, they accept anything new and do not think too much about what will happen in their future.

2. Reveal the topic: Video games are more dangerous on children because of the experience they get from them teach how to kill and make children have less mercy. Manufacturers of video games like to invent a new generation that has wars by starting with kids because they are easier to teach than adults are. The children are like an empty page so we can write what we want it to be if we want the page still clean we need to write something good and useful or if we want to make it unclean we will write something bad .Many children cannot judge  what is  good and what is not good for them. This kind of game have message for our children, those people who made this games have message in there mind so we have to be careful with these messages. Video games are teaching children how to kill.

Some games let the player kill other people even if he does not want to kill so if he did not kill he loses the game. Therefore, we should see what our kids playing and we need to watch them while playing. This problem not just in one or two countries today it is in all over the world, we afraid

3. Relate to audience: According to an article Buckley 3, “violent video games result in public attention after a school shooting” (Gentile , Buckley 3).Article Olson18, “violent video games make children violence in their life” (Kutner,  Olson 18).

Our children are victims of these games because it teaches them how to be a killer from their first age. If the children accustomed to these games they will be a killer some time and they will first start with killing an animal so we just need more monitor our children because if we don't they could recreate what they see in the video games. Some people say, “It takes a short of time of violence and the kids can know that is game” (Gentile) which is wrong. The children will see a lot of blood every day he or she may thinking about doing it in their real life so we need to be careful.

4. Speaker credibility: For example in the popular game Manhunt, the player stalks his prey and kills them. In 2004, Warren Leblanc killed a child after playing this game, “Warren Leblanc lured 14-year-old Stefan Pakeerah to his death in a Leicester park in 2004, killing him with a knife and claw hammer. The victim’s parents blamed his addiction to Manhunt” (118).

Violent video games are the most dangerous for a person’s behavior and today TV shows and others technology give the family a lot of lessons and some of it are bad and some are not that bad.”The researchers specifically tried to get to the root of the chicken-or-egg problem -- do children become more aggressive after playing video games or are aggressive kids more attracted to violent videos? It is a murky -- and controversial -- issue. Many studies have linked violence in TV shows and video games to violent behavior. But when states have tried to keep under-18 kids from playing games rated "M" for mature, the proposed restrictions have often been challenged successfully in court.

In the new study, Dr. Craig A. Anderson, Ph.D., of Iowa State University in Ames, and his colleagues looked at how children and teen's video game habits at one time point related to their behavior three to six months later. The study included three groups of kids: 181 Japanese students’ ages 12 to 15; 1,050 Japanese students aged 13 to 18; and 364 U.S. kids’ ages 9 to 12. The U.S. children listed their three favorite games and how often they played them. In the younger Japanese group, the researchers looked at how often the children played five different violent video game genres (fighting action, shooting, adventure, among others); in the older group they gauged the violence in the kids' favorite game genres and the time they spent playing them each week.

Japanese children rated their own behavior in terms of physical aggression, such as hitting, kicking or getting into fights with other kids; the U.S. children rated themselves too, but the researchers took into account reports from their peers and teachers as well.

In every group, children who were exposed to more video game violence did become more aggressive over time than their peers who had less exposure. This was true even after the researchers took into account how aggressive the children were at the beginning of the study -- a strong predictor of future bad behavior”(Harding). Violent games make bad behaviors and aggressive person.” violent video games  grease violent  action on children minds by allowing the players to learn the war language “nice shot “,after killing an enemy””(Bushman)

5.  Preview main points: More of these games will make children have less mercy in their emotions. Many children who play video games experience bad dreams when they go to sleep. Children become violent more than before because of these games. Children have less mercy and become a violent too. Today many kids go to the doctors because they have more violence in their minds and some time they try to kill their family like what happen with the kids that it above mention.

Body

Reasons why video games affect children:

i. More of these games make the children forget their religion and forget their beliefs systematically of playing more video games have war stories and it will change their behaviors. Next generation will be having more wars because children of now days will be thinking wars and they will do it if we don't stop it as soon as possible. In Saudi Arabia, they have tried to control as much as they can to watch the video games before it enter to the country but sometimes there are people who work at companies that manufacture video games and they make it easier sell video games in Saudi Arabia.

ii. Children infrastructure is very important in trying to bring the best generation and therefore we need to build it in a good way and carefully for a future that has good generation. As we know many people who like to be in war or make war have something in their background to give them support about war or fight or kill such as child abuse from their family or their culture but today we have the video games which are the most influential to our children. “In any case, violent games cause content growth aggression” (Anderson, Gentile, Buckley134).

iii. Language used in video games make kids to adapt it in their conversation with their friends and the family too especially the bad words these games use and they enable them to say them normally because they hear them more often while they are playing it because it comes to the brain fast and without control. For example; kill, go cut some body head etc. These kinds of games target some religions that have many people following it and they target the young people by planting bad ideas in their minds. They try to give children the idea that there is nothing like the holy books.

iv. There is a website containing an interesting paragraph on how video games affect a person's personality. Violence of video games is an important topic, “Studying the relationship between personality and video games is important because personality may predict whether individuals play video games, and if they do, the frequency with which they play these games and the types of games they choose to play”(chory and ( goodboy191). The character of a person is very important to grow up in a good way and morally so we need to be sure that our children live in a good condition. It is important to nurture children in a good way because they are the people who control us in the future.

v. Children are innocent and are not born with violent thoughts and when the children play war games like Call of Duty they will have less mercy towards others.”Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, one of the most popular games of the year was released last week.  Many people rushed to stores at midnight the day of its release to be one of the first to check it out. I have to admit, graphics are great and the game play looks real.  Some of my friends say its one of the best games they have ever played. It is upon us to teach children that video games are just games and not to be practiced after playing them, or do the unimaginable and not let them play it at all.  So what is the deal?  Why such a grand lead in?  Modern Warfare 2 has a controversial level that even gives the option to skip over it two separate times. The level is set up in an airport, and you have infiltrated a terrorist group and you are earning their trust. Your objective is to kill every civilian in the airport then get out while sending some sort of a message by doing so. Unarmed, people in an airport, hands in the air and running for their lives, being shot down like they are in some sick parallel scenario of a Columbine or Fort Hood. That’s pretty messed up folks, to think your kids are playing a game that makes it “cool” to play the forbidden level. I can see it now, 10 year old kids telling their parents they are going over to Bobby’s house after school to play, when the whole thing is orchestrated just to play this game before Bobby’s older brother gets home from his school. But that’s not the worst part, it gets worse then just killing defenseless people.  The idea that is enforced on kids in this level is: You are a double agent fighting terror; therefore, you must join up with other terrorists to commit acts of violence such as killing everyone in an airport for the sake of the war on terror or for national security. It actually asks you to kill innocent people for the betterment of the fight against terror. Yeah, killing people is fine, just as long as you have a good reason Bobby!  Sometimes we need to kill the good innocent people to catch the bad people and that is just fine, I mean you don’t want Bin Laden to come to your house and kill you and your family, do you Bobby?  Then pick up that fully automatic assault rifle and start shooting, because that’s the way we do it in America, and it’s the only way to keep us safe from the boogieman! That’s the only way we can save America” (Green). That really make us think a lot before we let the children play any game because today we have seen many different kind of games some of it are  bad and some are little bet good. However, Call of Duty has many sections and the last one is number eight so it had been playing for a long time.

There are some people who agree with video games and they think it does not make any violent because they believe if they teach their children from the born to know what to chose and to can enjoying playing with everything not just the technology or what we call it video games in a good way with some growing mind. Sometimes we think that is true what people think about letting the children do what they have talent because it may give them the chance to be more responsibility on what they have chosen. Children become immature with more of this kind of games.

Children try to find something interested and hard therefore they chose violent game there is writer describe this situation “the reason that the condition of the game be difficult or does not have much fun that make the children the violent” (Anderson, Gentile, Buckley, 165)

Solutions to challenges that comes with video games.

i. One way of helping children not to be affected by video games is by educating people who are able to work with the information. This is to add clear science-based information to the family and caregivers about the harmful effect of publicity to violent video game. (Anderson, Gentile, Buckley,161).

ii. Families need to control the children for a good behavior so they can grow with perfect reputation and by their own choice.

Challenges that come with video games

i.  Many families today does not know how to deal with the children, we can say that if we see the parents give the child everything he or she want because they don't want to make them be sad. Video games now are too easy to buy from any where without any asking from anybody.

ii. Video games stores sell the games but they don't know how old is the person that he or she want to buy this game however in every video games there is sticker that has been written  the legal age of the buyer but almost no one focus on this thing but this is important thing. Call of Duty the player must be above 18 years old but the maximum of the player are under 15 years old so that can be a big problem and there are a lot of games are the same thing and the players are under the that written on the cover.

iii.  Buying a specific video game for the kids is not easy and it is not that hard either but the family need to be involved so they can ask their kids to chose the video game and they get to discuss whether it is healthy for the children or not. For example :the father could go m chose the video game and if there is violence in the game he could give the chance to buy two game but forget this game, it will happen in a good if they try it .

Conclusion

i.  Signal close: In conclusion video games can be bad and good but in how we use it .As we know the young people love to try any thing that it new and mysterious however the technology enter our homes and don't ask for permission so it affect their mind with what it publish in the homes .

ii.  Review main points: violent video games will affect our kids in a bad way, it will give them the push to be in wars, and the next generation will change with a lot of violence games because the kids now start think about wars. Children have less mercy today if we want to compare between this generation and the past one and as we can see, today many young people forget what they beliefs and they have less contact with their religion so if someone being less contact with religion he or she would have something bad in the emotions.

iii. Memorable close: Control from the family is important. It means by being aware when the boy or girl want to buy video game and parents should be with her or him. They need to read the cover page that has the legal age and they should know what the game is about is whether it is a war or race game.
