Genetics Project
Assignment 2, Part 2
The Sequences
Protein Sequence
- 100 amino acids required in sequence
- Sequence should be written using the three-letter designator for an amino acid
- Example:
- Aaa Bbb Ccc Ddd Eee Fff Ggg Hhh Iii Jjj Kkk Lll Mmm Nnn Ooo Ppp Qqq Rrr Sss Ttt Uuu Vvv Xxx Yyy Zzz …
mRNA Sequence
- Using the genetic code found on the back cover of your text book, provide the triplet RNA that corresponds with the Amino Acid in your sequence
- Helpful hints:
- You will have 300 RNA bases
- RNA bases are A, U, C, G
- Example RNA sequence:
- AAA UUU CCC GGG … and many, many more!
DNA Sequence
- Using complementary base pairing rules you will extrapolate back to the DNA sequence
- You only need to provide the template strand of DNA
- Helpful hints:
- You should have 300 DNA bases
- DNA bases can be denoted A, T, C, G
- RNA to DNA base pairing rules are:
- A=T
- U=A
- C=G
- G=C
- Tip : You can alternatively show the RNA sequence with the DNA below it in a different color for example in an excel spreadsheet
