1. (10%) Allison and Henry have secured new positions and are planning to move from California to New York. The couple has two children under the age of 10 (6, 3), one dog, one cat, and two cars. They need to set up an organized moving plan that includes a new home in New York and they need your help. You decide to use the systems development life cycle (SDLC) as the basis of their moving plan. A. Begin by listing the steps involved in SDLC. B. Discuss in detail each of the steps of SDLC and how these steps can be applied to the move.
2. (10%) Biometrics is a form of technology that is used for identification purposes. Name two types of biometric technologies. Describe how each one is used. What are two pros and two cons associated with the use of the biometric ID process?
3. (10%) You need to purchase a printer for your office. There are three people that will use this printer for projects that include Word and Excel documents that contain graphics. A. Will you want an impact or nonimpact printer? Define each type of printer. B. Provide an example of each type of printer. C. What are the pros and cons of impact versus nonimpact printers in terms of usage for each person in the office? D. Will you set up your printer in a wired or wireless format? Explain your choice.
4. (10%) The work space in your home office needs to be redesigned so that ergonomics are considered. A. What is ergonomics? B. What are three considerations you must address as you create an ergonomic home office? Explain. C. There are many pros to setting up an ergonomic work space. Name three of them.
5. (10%) Fred is currently using the hard drive on his computer to store all his data. He is considering several methods of storage that he might use to back up his data. A. Is it necessary to back up the data stored on the hard drive? Explain your response. B. Name and describe three options that Fred might use to back up his data.
6. (15%) You have decided to open a graphic design business that will operate from your home. You will be creating stationery, brochures, and websites for your clients and will also providing the clients with technical support. A. What type of computer system will you need? Explain the input, output, processor, communication and storage devices. Include specific details for each component. B. What software applications are vital for a graphic design business? List three applications and explain how they will help you complete your business activities.

7. When is a stacked-column chart appropriate? Give a business example in support of your answer.
8. When is it more reasonable to store data in Excel rather than Access? Give a business example.
9. How does Microsoft Access differ from other Microsoft Office applications in terms of storing file information while the file is open and in use? What vulnerability exists in the Microsoft Office applications and how would it be remediated?
10. In Microsoft Excel, what three different categories of data can be stored in a cell and how could a user identify a single category by viewing the cell editor.
11. In Microsoft PowerPoint, why might a user include both PowerPoint slides and the notes for a handout to be given to viewers of a PowerPoint presentation?
12. What is the difference between a table of contents and an index in the context of a research paper? If the reader of a research paper seeks to pinpoint passages on a certain topic, which would provide more support—the table of contents or the index, and why?
13. If an image is downloaded from the Internet after an extensive Google/Bing search for the "perfect picture," and then pasted into the body of a research paper, what action or actions should be taken by the writer of the paper?
14. Most word processing programs use word wrap to automatically move a word to the next line when the word length would exceed the right margin. Microsoft Word has this feature. If you were editing a document and you added three inches to the right margin and changed the page orientation to landscape, but there was no change in the text, what would you suspect caused this error to occur?
15. In Microsoft Access, why is having a FirstName field and a LastName field considered "best practice" instead of having a Name field with first and last name in that one field?
16. What does referential integrity provide for a user in Microsoft Access? Give an example.
