ART OPINION 1, due _____________ Choose one of the artists from your textbook or from lecture. Discuss one or two of their works. Avoid discussing more than two works in this short of a paper. Discuss why you find the artist’s compelling or intriguing. You do NOT have to choose an artist whose works you adore, you may choose an artist whose works you dislike intensely. But, you will need to clarify why you feel the way that you do. “I just don’t like it” is not a substantial argument. You need to give examples and evidence. Discuss colors, materials, how the artist evokes a response in the viewer. Is the work pretty or intentionally shocking? What is the subject matter? Is background information helpful? Is the work symbolic or is it simply a bouquet of flowers? Your opinion should be an INFORMED opinion (which means research, at least three sources – use more academic websites, no Wikipedia or about.com or blogs – reputable sources). Consider using an experts opinion to support or show contrast to your opinion. The use of first or second person (I, me, you, we, etc) is acceptable in this short opinion paper (it is not okay in the more formal Museum Paper which is due later). You must cite your work carefully (MLA, double spaced, typed, carefully proofread, use a reasonable font (under 12), and 1 inch margins).
