One example of an ecological issue we face is Electronic waste. So many computers, cell phones, and other electronic devices get thrown away and discarded throughout the world. You see an effort now moe then ever with alot of recycling companies trying to recycle these particular materials but even then, the discarding of electronic material affect our immediate health and our soil. China is an example of a place that it affects the most, with landfills full of computers, CD, mp3, and all kinds of wasteful electronics. Another example is water pollution. Our water is always being tainted or some spill affects our water supply in a tremendous way. In some countries you cant even drink the water that flows through that location due to pollutants and other chemicals that have destroyed the water and supply and also affected the ecosystem.

An example of an ecological issue we are faced with today is lead paint in older homes. I have a friend that just purchased a home and they had to get a lead paint inspection because the home was built in the 1960's. This affected the closing because there were inconsistencies in the report. It turned out that the house had lead paint but because it was so old they were informed there would be no harm to their bodies. Studies have shown that lead poisoning is decreased each time a coat of paint is put on the wall.
Another example of an ecological issue is contamination of drinking water. We hear on the news that after a bad storm drinking water is unsafe to drink. This happened in Ohio recently, where the drinking water was deemed unsafe to drink due to algae. More studies could be conducted on what causes the algae and the effects it has on human consumption

Article: Marine Protected areas inadequate for protecting fish and ocean ecology, study finds
To protect the ecological functions of fish species, an expansion of marine protected area is needed to fulfill this requirement of protecting the fish. Fish species are food for millions of people and some animals. Researchers found that many areas are threatened but functionally important fish were found outside of existing marine protected areas. Without the fish species being protected, this puts them at vulnerability such as taxonomic sensitivity (the number of threatened species in a fish community) and functional sensitivity (the number of functions in danger of being lost because of external threats). Areas of high vulnerability included the coastal waters of Chile, the eastern tropical Pacific, and the eastern Atlantic Ocean, areas where relatively few fish species perform vital environmental functions with few or no redundancies or species that fill similar roles. Tropical fish populations and the ecological services that they provide are to be ensured; therefore the world's existing marine protected area network must be expanded to ensure protection.

4. Reinhabiting Environmentalism
According to Bing dictionary environmentalism means having concern for the environment and the environment around them. Usually we read news articles about the pollution we come in contact with in our daily lives. There are pollutants flying around in the air and in the water we drink. Each of us knows someone who has been affected by cancer. We must ask ourselves, is this our fault. Have we done this to ourselves?
How are humanity and the environment considered the same? Humanity is all living things; people, animals and vegetation. Environment is where we live and breathe. In my opinion humanity makes up the environment. We are the people, we are the animals and we are the vegetation. What we do affects the lives of others around us. How has mankind effected the environment in your neighborhood? As I took my dog out to tonight I listened to bugs. I wonder how many lost their home when the new development started being built. I have seen an increase in deer in my yard since the trees were cut down. I have even noticed a few snakes looking for food. Did we do this? Why do we need more houses in this area? When will we be happy with we have and start thinking like environmentalist?
Mankind has helped medicine in many ways. We have developed vaccines that keep us from becoming sick. Who knew that putting a small amount of a virus in your body could keep you from getting sick? Each year I get my flu shot I think about this. Am I really doing a good thing by polluting my body with the virus so I don’t get sick. As humans we do this to the environment too. We pollute the air and water with our everyday lives. How many women use hairspray? I know I do. I am at fault with polluting the air. How many of us use pesticides on our grass each year to get rid of weeds? I do. We need to understand that our actions affect the lives of everyone around us. What can you do to limit the pollutants you produce in your environment?
As we think about the first question, how are humanity and the environment the same, we must ask, are we violating our human rights. Us as humans have the right to live in an environment where we feel safe. Is it safe that the water we drink is contaminated by us, humans? Is it safe that the water we play in at the beach is so dirty the city or town will not allow us to swim in it? We make our environment unsafe for us to live in it. Does this mean we violate our own human rights, in a way yes. Describe how pollution of the environment is a violation of human rights.
