I believe that the CEO's of companies should be held accountable for knowing whether the financial figures that reflect their companies are accurate or not. There have been major incidents over the recent years that have really shed light on the various roles that CEO's supposedly play in a company and the reality of the situation is that it is not enough accountability. Accountability is the only way to ensure that the public receives the most accurate figures.

Without proper governance any company can be subject to misguidance and malpractices. Though private companies are governed differently than public companies, I believe that it is not only the responsibility of the CEO but also one of the job descriptions to be held accountable of the successes and failures of that company. How can they share in the successes and not be held liable for the failures? The Queen of England is only a figure-head to her country but is still held accountable when poverty, corruption, and depression arise. Shouldn't CEO's be held more accountable for the roles that they play in companies. They have the power to make decisions regarding the future and at times even the demise of a company. Some might argue that by holding them accountable makes them seem like the scapegoat in a major accounting scandals, but I argue that many CEO's were business majors or law school graduates and ignorance should never be an excuse for negligence.

If a situation were to occur where the CEO was put liable for the mistake or fraud of his accountant it would be wrong to blame him yet as the leader and head of the company it is his duty to review and know his company, which is why CEOs make so much money. If I were a CEO I would run a background check and reevaluate all my accountants personally, I would do financial checks on them and make sure my staff is up to my standard. As a CEO I would also ensure and review money and weekly reports of the company’s financial status and be aware of its transactions. I personally would not be adding multiplying or doing all the paper work but I would be doing the leadership job and making sure my workers are doing the job correctly. In the military if someone dose something wrong the blame falls on their leadership for not guiding their personnel correctly. As unfair and unjust it seems I believe it is the duty and responsibility of the CEO to be aware of his company and how its employees are conducting it business.
