Subject: Philanthropic Proposal – Lance Armstrong Foundation
Dear Jessica,
The Lance Armstrong Foundation is our best philanthropic partnership option because it’s efficiently managed and founded by a leader in the cycling industry, so it should appeal to our employees and clientele. Through a fundraising contest, we can increase clientele, engage customer and employees, and gain tax deductions.
Why the Lance Armstrong Foundation?
A relevant cause:
The Lance Armstrong Foundation creates and offers resources to cancer patients and survivors, facilitates a better cancer experience, and brings awareness to survivorship.
Cancer is a timely issue: The American Cancer Society predicts that 1,660,290 Americans will be diagnosed with the disease in 2013, meaning that many of our stakeholders will know someone affected by cancer.
A reliable partner:
The foundation is efficiently run. According to Charity Navigator—which dubs itself the “nation's largest and most-utilized evaluator of charities”—the Lance Armstrong Foundation has:
· A fundraising efficiency of $.05
-The foundation spends only $.05 to raise $1 in charitable contributions
· Program expenses of 80.2%
-$.80 of every dollar we raise will be used toward education and programs for cancer patients and survivors and cancer research and awareness.
How can we help?
National Cancer Survivor’s day is on Sunday, June 2nd this year, and to honor the charity’s mission of cancer survival and to honor founder, Lance Armstrong, I propose “Tour de SpinCity” within each of our six studios during the month of June.
To enter this month-long race, members would donate $25 to the Lance Armstrong Foundation, and members can win by:
· Tallying the most in-class miles in June
1. First Place: One year free membership (Value: $2,400)
2. Second Place: Six months free membership (Value: $1,200)
3. Third Place: Three months free membership (Value: $600)
· Attending the most classes for June
1. One Prize: Six months free membership (Value: $1,200)
We can also incentivize our instructors to promote the contest by:
· Offering a time and a half pay rate of $90 per class to 2 employees during July if:
1. They have the most participants in their classes for June
2. They have the most tallied miles during their classes for June
Total Costs: $6,600
Another way we could support the Lance Armstrong Foundation is to match the total donations made by members in our own donation.
How will Tour de SpinCity help our studios?
By hosting this event, our company will benefit by:
·
Increasing clientele
-In a declining economy, an offer of free memberships is appealing.
·
Engaging our employees
-Through friendly competition and giving them something to work for, we can increase their engagement in classes and overall studio morale.
·
Increasing instructor motivation
-Members will feel they are getting the most out of their classes and the most for their money.
·
Improving our image
-Members and the community will feel more comfortable spending their time and money here.
·
Increasing brand recognition
-The Lance Armstrong Foundation is one of the most famous and reputable charities in the country and our studios will be connected with this.
·
Reinforcing core competency
-We can show our passion for cycling in a productive way.
·
Deducting our costs on taxes
-We can claim the costs of $6,600 from this contest as tax-deductible.
By opening this contest at each of our six studios, we will be able to increase our studio morale and class numbers. We will also be able to elevate our income and hopefully be able to continue this contest for years and gain recognition for our positive efforts.
Please feel free to email me back with any questions.
Best,
--
