Final Portfolio Rubric
The purpose of your portfolio is to showcase your best, most polished work. In order to do this, you should reread not only your essays, but also the original assignment to assure your thoughts are in alignment with what was asked of you. Additionally, you should spend time on the revision and editing process. You should apply your instructor’s suggestions and comments for the betterment of your essays and your writing. The following is a list of not only what will go into your portfolio but also the ways in which you can ensure the best possible outcome.
•Title page in APA: Create a title for your portfolio in APA format.
•Titles of Essays: For each essay, add the type of essay in parenthesis after the essay title. Ex: Grimm’s “Cinderella” (Summary); Psychology Today (essay from PSY101)
•Autobiography/Writer’s Background: This is the only new piece that you will write from scratch. You will write at least one page (double-spaced) about yourself as a writer in the third person. You will focus on how your writing has changed over the course of the eight weeks and how you will apply this knowledge in writing to future courses and your future career. How can these new writing skills benefit your writing across the curriculum and in your future career? How has your writing process changed over the eight weeks? What parts of your writing or the writing process do you need to work on? How will you change your writing process to succeed in future writing assignments across the curriculum?
•Summary: This should be the revised version of the summary you’ve already submitted.
•Critique: This should be the revised version of the critique you’ve already submitted.
•Explanatory or Argument Synthesis: Many students choose the synthesis with the higher grade for submission. Consider challenging yourself to submit the lower grade to improve upon not only your writing skills, but also on your abilities as a self-editor.
•One essay from another course or from this course: You may choose any essay from another course or this one for submission. Again, take revisions into account. This should be your most polished version of this essay.
•Research Essay: This should be the resubmission of your revised research essay.
· Notes about me as a writer: I’ve used my writing skills to help me further my career in the Army, by writing evaluation reports for my Soldiers and it also helps me identify weak evaluations that are done for me. Military style writing is different from college style writing. The skills I’ve learned in this class will help me prepare cases if I become a contracted investigator for the Government like my brother. It involves a lot of typing. The rest you can make up, no worries.
