The Innovation Union Scoreboard for the year 2014 shows some interesting statistics; in fact [omit, meaningless] ,

Cliché: "in fact" is a weak word whose meaning is nothing more than "in point of fact." It is often used as intensifiers but usually can be deleted with no change in meaning

it portends that the impact effectof economic crisis

[ "impact" is a noun (a hit). It is informally used as a verb (impacting the business), but avoid this in academic writing]

is not as severe as expected. Moreover, the gap across countries in relation to innovation performance is shrinking at a commendable rate. Previous scoreboards revealed that there was some volatility in terms of innovation convergence across member states, but this has improved. The leaders in innovation such as Sweden are not slowing down and the countries trailing them are hot on their heels [collowuial – avoid in academic writing] to ensure that development is attained. Several innovation dimensions are always taken into consideration to certain the performance of the countries about the innovation. They include the main drivers of innovation such as human resource development, research and development systems, as well as finances to fuel the entire process of innovation (Gow, 2005). Using this platform,

Dangling modifier

Mistakes made by using too many words, or by repeating words or ideas

The subordinate phrase Using this platform does not appear to be modifying the subject it. Rewrite the sentence to avoid a dangling modifier.

A dangling modifier is a word or phrase that attempts to modify something that isn't actually in the sentence. Make certain that the target is showing before you modify it. In the following examples, the subordinate clause and the subject are put in bold to illustrate how one modfies the other.

it comes to the fore that the members are grouped into four categories namely; innovation performance above European Union average (innovation leaders); Innovation performance close to the EU average (innovation followers); innovation performance just below the EU average (moderate innovators); and innovation performance hat is way below the EU average (modest innovators).

Wordy sentence

Mistakes made by using too many words, or by repeating words or ideas

This sentence may be excessively wordy. Consider re-phrasing the sentence, or breaking it into smaller sentences.

People have very short attention spans; if too much information is presented all at once, the brain cannot properly process it. While there are no strict rules about length of a sentence, if your clauses are longer than about 20 words, or if your entire sentence is longer than about 40 words, it may be too much for your reader to clearly understand. If the reader has to go back and re-read too many sentences, they may just give up reading... and possibly fall asleep.

According to the performance indicators above, Sweden is firmly ahead of the pack [colloquial – omit] followed closely by Denmark, Germany, and Finland. The innovation takes into consideration factors such as research and innovation systems. Counties Countries like Sweden have superior economic performance that is attributed to the innovation systems that have been put in place. The outlook ? of the scoreboard points out [anthropomorphism, a scoreboard cannot “point our”] that the difference across member states is smallest in human resources with Sweden as the best performer and Malta trailing the pack the lowest one (Gow, 2005). Human resource is a key ingredient to spur economic growth and development. Effective and strategic human resources are directly proportional to productivity and economic development, and this largely explains why Sweden is leading. The country Sweden has the best human resource platform; issues of human resources are handled in the most objective manner possible. Issues around human resources such as training and development, appraisal, promotions, and remuneration are done in the most objective way. When such factors of human development are done objectively the morale and team spirit levels are enhanced with which in turn leads to high productivity and efficiency. Moreover, costs associated with employee turnover, absenteeism, and resistance to change as well as recruitment costs is reduced considerably.

The European Union is undisputedly the best performing union in the globe [where else?] having attained [?] a common currency. The cost of doing business across e member states are is considerably reduced and as such volumes in trade is also guaranteed [By whom?]. The European Union as a unit has a better bargaining power that makes them it have a better collective better terms of trade (Treasury Board of Canada, 2002). A crucial indicator [which one?] clearly shows that the member states will collectively benefit through high-export income and foreign reserves. What remains to be done is to ensure that there is a high level of convergence across various indicators that include human resource performance, research development, productivity, and levels of innovation. It [What, who?] will ensure that all the member states get to benefit equally and that the gap between the best performers such as Sweden and poor performers such as Malta is considerably reduced.

The European Union host multinational industries that produce superior goods and service services, which have a global coverage and demand. It [what is?] is a key indicator that indeed high levels of innovation and research are key to the production of superior products and services that cuts across the board. Of much importance is the need to have a strong selling point that accords huge demand for the products and services that are being produced in the Union (Innovation Union Scoreboard, 2014). Innovation is one of the major features that has characterized the 21st century; all industries, economies, and organizations are coming up with better ways of addressing issue. Canada is one of the countries that are taking the lead and gaining competitiveness through research development and innovation. Improved product and service levels is one feature Incorrect verb form with plural subject

Mistakes made in ensuring the subject and verb agree throughout the sentence

The singular verb is does not appear to agree with the plural subject levels. Consider changing the verb form for subject-verb agreement.

that takes credit from the government intervention in research. With high investments in research and development better ways of production and service delivery has been hatched hence households now enjoy superior products and services.

Sentence fragment

Mistakes made when putting the parts of a sentence together, hard-to-understand sentences

This appears to be an incomplete sentence. Consider rewriting the sentence or connecting the fragment with another sentence.

A complete sentence requires a main clause, which includes a subject, a verb, and a complete thought. When one of these components is missing, the result is called a sentence fragment or incomplete sentence. To correct the problem, the fragment must be rewritten to include a main clause or joined in some way with the existing main clause of another sentence.

The innovation in Canada cuts across all industries as well as the households. With innovation taking the center stage productivity, employment opportunities, and economic development are guaranteed. The future is looking brighter and in the future, the categories will be reduced so that there are only the leaders and followers that all meet the European Union standards of innovation and research development.

[Strengthen the conclusion as it draws together your thinking, often summarizing what you've said, making a final point for the reader to think about.]

Passive Voice [7 uses]

Potential issues with passive voice usage

Ensure you have not overused the passive voice in your work. This sentence is written in the passive voice; consider changing it to the active voice.

The passive voice refers to the subject receiving the action; the active voice refers to the subject doing the action. While the passive voice is perfectly acceptable in formal writing, it may not effectively persuade the reader. In modern society, people are often convinced by facts; the active voice sounds more like a fact, or a certainty.

The passive voice should be used in cases where the information is unknown, irrelevant, or should not be mentioned (i.e. when being subtle). It is also used when writing in an impersonal manner to avoid use of pronouns.
