STRATEGIC ANALYSIS INTERNSHIP COMPANY INTERNSHIP STUDENTS
The five-page, double-spaced final paper (plus the Works Cited page) asks you to focus on the internal workings within your internship organization as well as the external forces affecting the organization's performance. Research has shown that organizations that take a strategic approach to the business are often more successful than those who do not. It is important for you to be able to look beyond the daily activities of the workplace and become aware of those business factors which contribute to the long-term success of the organization. Here is an additional checklist:
OPTION--SUBMIT AN OUTLINE OF YOUR SWOT PAPER BY THE SATURDAY OF WEEK 7
1. Add last name/first name to your saved document name. Ex. SWOT.Smith-John.docx
2. Please use Align Text Left button in the Paragraph group of your Home tab.
3. Use the insert tab in Word to insert your name and page number as a header.
4. For the first page and continued setup of your paper, see Week 6 DB, Andie DiMarco's presentation--sample essay. Pictures, charts, and graphs are a nice touch throughout the paper but are optional. If used, make sure that they are relevant. For database searches and a full explanation of your SWOT paper, see Leslin Charles's libguides at the end of this Reading Assignment under Library SWOT Presentation.
5. Begin your paper with a BRIEF introduction to your internship company.
6. Use side headings with the names of the SWOT topics.
7. Eliminate personal remarks or comments like the words I, my, me, our, us, in my opinion, I think, I feel, etc. Write in the third person (about the company) not in the first or second (meaning I, me, you). Here is a great site explaining this directive. http://www.wvup.edu/jcc/pam/thirdperson.htm
8. Add ACTION STEPS/RECOMMENDATIONS at the end of the document (before the Works Cited page).
9. Include inline citations for any thought, word, sentence, paragraph, paraphrase, or quote that is not your own and a Works Cited page (at least 3 cites required). Please check the Week 6 DB for additional help from Andie DiMarco re using the MLA process and a sample essay (SWOT Paper).
10. Remember that this is a formal report and should not contain any spelling, grammar, punctuation, sentence structure, or directional errors. Proofread carefully. To motivate you to use the ASC and have them help you with proofreading your document, I am attaching a coupon that will add two points to your final SWOT Paper grade if used according to the directions on the coupon.
