Rationale Paper for Lesson Plan
Based on survey findings, I found that lots of teachers do not know how to use Microsoft Excel into classroom. Therefore, I decide to conduct a lesson plan about how to use Microsoft Excel in one hour.
Every teacher should know that everyone learns differently. Some students are analytical, while others are more visually inclined. And then personality comes into play: the class clowns, the shy kids, the troublemakers, the chatterboxes, the social butterflies, and the loners are all represented in almost every classroom .The truth is, most people are a combination of many things. The more tools you can give your students to learn the concepts you're teaching, the better off they'll be .In Microsoft Excel, charts and diagrams can be used to explain complicated concepts, get students motivated, review progress, and enliven a discussion about a traditionally dry subject. These two are also very useful for the teacher or administrator who wants to keep track of grades, trends, statistics, and other student or district information.
At the beginning of the class, I will start with discussion the objectives of this course. Adult frequently seek higher education in response to an identified need to gain a specific skill or knowledge. Moreover, Showing learners the objectives will help put the purpose of the training in concrete, measurable terms. If learners know the objectives from the beginning, they know what they are expected to learn. Objectives also should clearly focus on the desired outcomes. After showing learners the objectives, I will ask them what they already know about Microsoft Excel and what is the value of this program in teaching because I believe it is important to help learners integrate the new information with information they have already acquired. Next step I will give them paper which is about some instructional on how to create Excel spreadsheet, chart, and diagram. However, they still need to search about some steps in order to do them .Then I will divide learners into small group and I will ask each group to create different charts and diagrams on its own worksheet. Learners will gain knowledge by discussing and talking with each other because adult always learn informally by talking with other. At the end of the class time, we will discuss the obstacles that each group faces when they create their own work in Microsoft Excel and how can we deal with that.
In my teaching style with adult learners, I like to be facilitator rather than teachers. I believe that People learn best when they are totally and actively involved and take full responsibility for their own learning. Learning is not a spectator sport but a participatory one. Knowledge is not something a learner passively absorbs, but something a learner actively creates. Adult learners tend to be more activity-based rather than materials-based or presentations-based.
Furthermore, People generally learn best in an environment of collaboration. I extremely encourage using new learning style which is all learning tends to be social and the instructor just guide learners in a right way not as traditional learning which is emphasizes competition between isolated individuals. People also learn best when they have a rich variety of learning options that allows them to use all their senses and exercise their preferred learning style rather than thinking of a learning program as a one-dish meal.
