According to Armstrong, Henson, & Savage, 2009, the personal philosophy of someone is not just a written statement. It is a perspective that involves his/her beliefs and values and becomes the basis from which he/she makes decisions about what is important and about his/her role as an educator. Both parents and students normally have a lot of expectations on teachers which must be fulfilled.
My intensive training as a teacher and the passion to pursue a career in teaching enabled achieve sound knowledge and teaching skills which are requisites for becoming an effective teacher. Students will benefit from my ability to present materials clearly and systematically. My ability to arouse students’ interests will encourage students to learn actively and will also stimulate them to think critically and independently.
My ability to inspire children to learn is what parents should expect from me as a teacher. With excellent mastery of the subjects and the enthusiasm to teach students, I can inspire them to put extra effort in their studies and thus helping them achieve their goals. My ability to understand the student’s perspective makes me an outstanding teacher. The basis of good pedagogy is the ability to place oneself in the position of the child. This helps in understanding what the students want. Students also need creative freedom to exploit their talents and therefore it is extremely important to allow them to contribute ideas during class sessions and make them feel free to make mistakes.
My objective as a teacher is to make students have passion for learning as well as creating a nice environment that is encouraging. I strongly believe I can provide the tools and skills necessary for success and enable students exploit their talents and give them self confidence to achieve their goals in life.
Teachers play a vital role in the society. I understand that the most important responsibility of a teacher is to prepare students to lead successful and productive lives. As a teacher, it is my responsibility to inspire and provide a dependable and consistent influence on students as they make choices about their advancement in education and how they are going to live and work in their future.
My character and moral standards affect my students. It requires me to exhibit high moral standards as a person, a teacher and a learner so that students can emulate from me. As a person, the most important values in life are integrity, respect, team spirit and honest. As a teacher, the most important values are wisdom, trust, enthusiasm and love. As a learner, passion is very important. Hardworking and integrity are also values that are important to a learner. In order to achieve something in life, it requires one to be enthusiastic and thus I am self driven with eager to assist my students at any cost. The quality of being honest and having strong moral principles make me be respected by the students and society at large. Hardworking is always accompanied by success and the results of hardworking are achieved through wisdom. These are the values I embrace in life which I believe are vital to any person in the society.
Using instructional strategies that address the different learning styles and needs of students is the most effective method I rely on. It is important to determine the dominant learning style of each student and monitor each student’s academic progress through various continuous assessments. This enables me to plan instruction based on the student’s strengths and weaknesses in order to improve their academic development
I understand that students learn best by having them construct their own knowledge instead of constructing it for them. According to the theory of constructivist learning, learning is an active process of creating meaning from different experiences. This implies that students learn best by trying to figure out something on their own with the teacher as a guide to help them along the way. For this reason, I would expect students to participate during class lessons. Discussions will be the key in mastering various concepts in class.
Hands on and minds on learning is what I value most because I believe teaching should be accompanied by various activities that are essential in the process of learning. This will help students excel in their academics and enable them to have confidence in answering any question during lessons. It is my strong believe that by engaging students during the learning process, it will enable them to handle not only the class assignments but also challenges in their future endeavors.
