Logistics
Section VII:
What was learned in the mass merchandising industry could also be applied in other industries to give an edge to a company. The considerations that were made in this particular industry; whether to build a warehouse or to expand an existing will also apply in the other industries. The same methods that guided the decision making process in the mass merchandising industry are necessary for the other industries. The process should also be informed and preferably done by logistics experts. For instance, when dealing with the food industry, the goods that are very perishable are better stored at a near place from the manufacturing point.
The metrics of measuring the success of the plan will also be applied in the other industries to assist in the supply and logistic plan. For instance, the inventory turnover is equally important in a beauty industry since the ever changing demand requires an efficient and effective inventory. That will check the pace at which the demands of the customers are met (Rushton & Walker, 2007). To assess the success of the logistics plan of the other industry the metrics such as, Inventory turns, inventory accuracy, Cycle time, and performance to promise and fill rate will also be used as the metrics or measurements. The accuracy level should be ensured also in the other industries so as to guarantee increased performance. Counter checking of the records should be done, just like in the mass merchandising so as to reduce any kind of inaccurate entry. Internal as well as external auditors are important in all industries.
