Research Requirement :  Please use at least seven (7) but no more than ten (10) secondary sources.  You must use at least one of each of the following source types:  a book, an article from a scholarly journal, a newspaper article, and a magazine article.  You must use one of the above readings, which will count toward the 7-source requirement.  Furthermore, while you may use more than one website, only one website will count toward the 7-source minimum.  In other words, you must incorporate research from the following source types into your paper:

1. A book

2. A scholarly journal article

3. A newspaper article

4. A magazine article

5. One of the above readings (not a model problem/solution essay)

6. Another book or article from a scholarly journal, magazine, or newspaper.

7. Any source, including credible websites (many of our databases contain links to credible websites)

8. Additional sources are optional

Finally, while you may use Wikipedia to familiarize yourself with your topic, please do not use or citeWikipedia as a source for your research paper.  On the other hand, the references at the end of Wikipedia articles sometimes suggest more credible sources that may be of use to you.

Topic:

This semester, many of our readings highlighted specific problems in need of a solution, including but not limited to

· Immigration,

· Racism,

· Assimilation,

· The limiting nature of gender roles,

· Sexism, and

· Domestic violence.

Other readings addressed possible solutions to specific problems:  public protest, written declarations, and/or civil disobedience.

For this assignment, write a problem/solution paper on a topic related in some way to one of our readings from this term.  You may need to narrow the scope of your topic to make it more manageable; for example, rather than address the very broad issue of immigration, instead focus on a more specific problem such as access to a college education for undocumented youth, border control, or deportation of undocumented parents of citizen-children.

After clearly defining the problem, propose a solution to this particular problem.  You may choose to propose a specific solution to a problem or present your solution in the form of your own public Declaration.  Be sure to consider the parties involved in your solution or the audience of your Declaration.  If proposing a specific solution, also consider how such a solution might be implemented and the timeline for such implementation.

Good luck!
