Part I: Air Pollution Assessment

Hypothesis: 

During the four weeks of “The Vaseline Filter Experiment”, I will collect information on the coffee filter hanging on my enclosed deck. Out of all the likely situations; I believe that the coffee filter will have an unpleasant odor and become discolored from tobacco smoke.

Day One – Sunday April 25, 2014- 7:31am 

I am using a white coffee filter by “Mr. Coffee” for this lab. There aren’t any marks, tears, or discolorations on the coffee filter. After putting the Vaseline on the coffee filter it became even out (flatten), extremely glossy, smooth, and sticky. The coffee filter has ridges on the edges. Even with the Vaseline there is no unpleasant smell to the coffee filter. I hung up the coffee filter on the back enclosed deck for observation. I picked the back deck since it is one of the most frequented spot in the house; in addition to the kitchen. This outdoor deck is also the only place where I aloud smoking. Today’s weather is nice but sunny and a little windy with the temperature of 66 degrees.
