introduction

This is a facility used to clean the exterior and interior of a car.

Operators in this industry clean, wash and wax automotive vehicles such as passenger cars, trucks, vans, and trailers.

Vehicles are placed in a tunnel where a conveyor is used to move them through a series of fixed cleaning mechanisms.

Soaps and other cleaning solutions used are designed to loosen and eliminate dirt and grime.

Automatic carwash

When the customer is on the conveyor, the attendant will instruct the customer to put the vehicle into neutral, release all brakes, and refrain from steering.

The rollers come up behind the tires, pushing the car through a detector, which measures vehicle length, allowing the controller to tailor the wash to each individual vehicle.

The carwash start cleaning with pre-soaks applied through special arches.

The customer next encounters tire and wheel nozzles, called CTAs (Chemical Tire Applicators).

The next arch will be wraparounds.

Past wraparounds there is a tire brush that will scrub the tires and wheels.

The car then passes through the triple foamers.

Past the foamers is tire shining machine.

Next the vehicle is treated with a drying agent and a final rinse.

Failure to put the vehicle into neutral and release all brakes may cause an accident on the conveyor.

Car is pushed through a detector because the equipment frame, or arches, vary in number and type. A good car wash makes use of many different pieces of equipment and stages of chemical application to thoroughly clean the vehicle.

During carwash they may apply a lower pH followed by a higher pH, or the order may be reversed depending on chemical suppliers and formula used. Chemical formulas and concentrations will also vary based upon seasonal dirt and film on vehicles, as well as exterior temperature, and other factors. Chemical dilution and application works in combination with removal systems based on either high pressure water, friction, or a combination of both. The tire brush is often located beneath a mitter or top wheels.

The triple foam process includes special cleaners as well as some protective paint sealant.

The tire shining machine is designed to apply silicone tire dressing to the tires. This application makes the tires look good (new, and glossy) and preserves the rubber.

The carwash utilize a "spot free" rinse of soft water, that has been filtered of the salts normally present, and sent through semi-permeable membranes to produce highly purified water that will not leave spots. After using spot free water, the vehicle is finished with forced air drying, in some cases utilizing heat to produce a very dry car.

It uses high water pressure to clean the vehicle instead of brushes.

These five factors are water quality, water temperature, chemistry, time and water pressure generated by the equipment.

If these factors are set appropriately, vehicles will come out clean and shiny without the chance of vehicle damage caused by brushes.

An appropriate design for automatic car wash is using touch free car wash.

This one uses high water pressure to clean the car rather than the brushes.

Surface damage to the vehicle is minimized since there is no direct contact to the car.

To clean the vehicle successfully, water temperature, quality, chemistry, time and pressure are considered.

All these factors must be conducive for the cleaning.

A customer comes and drives the car to a queue and waits to order a car wash.

The attendant takes the car wash order and the customer puts the car into neutral and release all the brakes to avoid an accident and gets out leaving the car keys.

Customer then walks to a line to pay for car wash, he/she pays and waits for the car to be washed.

Once it’s the vehicles turn to be washed, the attendant drives the car to the washing bay. It is washed and dried.

Attendant then signals the customer that the car has been washed. Customer checks to be sure it has been washed to his satisfaction. if not, it is cleaned again and if it is, he/she shows the attendant the payment receipt gives a tip if he/she wants and leaves the car wash at will.

Metric to measure the process and its application

Analyzing the actual marketing statistics of a carwash is the only way to know how a business is truly performing and can help owners appreciate the value of their marketing.

There are 15 statistics or metrics that carwashes should measure to gain better operational insight and enable improvement.

These include: Wash volume, Gross sales, Dollars per car, Sales mix, New customers, Frequency, Churn, Customer satisfaction, Club sign-ups, Unique Web visitors, Customer profitability, Weather, Customer map, Campaign take rate and Long-term campaign ROI.

For the case of customer satisfaction, can typically be gauged through surveys. The question marketers have found to have the best correlation is, “On a scale of 1-10, how likely are you to recommend this carwash to a friend?” Customers who answer nine or 10 can be considered satisfied or loyal. Those who answer 0-6 should be considered dissatisfied or disloyal.

Business statistics enable deeper appreciation, better understanding and a clear gauge to determine your marketing and business effectiveness.

Gauging customer satisfaction may seem daunting to many operators, but it can be pretty simple. Print business cards containing this question and have a friendly employee approach 100 customers every other month. Provide a box with a slit for customers to submit the cards.

Make sure customers know the survey is anonymous and don’t give away anything for filling it out – both will skew results. Then enter the results into a spreadsheet.
