Part II: Aromatic Hydrocarbons and Resonance

Part IV Section 1

A. Construct a model, using the red atom with two prongs for oxygen, then draw the structural formula for 1-propanol, C3H7OH. (The common name is propanol, or propyl alcohol) Why is oxygen represented by the “bent” structure?

B. Construct a model, then draw the structural formula for 2-propanol, C3H7OH. (The common name is isopropanol, or isopropyl alcohol).

Part IV Section 2

A. Construct a model, then draw the structural formula for dimethyl ether, C2H6O.

B. What relationship exists between ethanol, C2H6O, and dimethyl ether? You may need to

draw/construct a model of ethanol to see this.
