I posted a general step-by-step set of instructions for doing a content analysis in the Materials list for DQ1.
Here is an overview related specifically to DQ1.
Your first task is to decide on the categories or codes you can use to analyze the 14 responses. Read the responses carefully and decide which categories it seems to you are covered in the responses.
After your decide on the categories or codes, you match the codes to the 14 responses listed in DQ1. You may find that more than one code or category will match with some of the Reponses. Suppose you decide on 5 categories or codes. You go back through the responses and match or mark each response with the codes(s) that match with the response. After you have finished coding, you count up how many codes were used across the 14 responses. To get the "n" for a response count how many codes were matched with the response. To get the % for a response, divide the number of codes used for the response by the total number of codes uses.
For example: suppose there were three responses and each was coded as follows:
1 a b
2 c a e
3 d
The total number of codes used would be 6. The table below displays the n's and %'s
Response n %
1 2 33
2 3 50
3 1 17
Let me know if you have further questions,
