Please use the template for Part 1-B of the Strategic Business Integration Process to help you complete this analysis. Be sure to support your stance with evidence culled through your research on the firm
OVERVIEW
What is the mission and vision of the firm? If you believe the firm is unclear on one or both of these, please explain. Identify the components of the firm’s current strategy (i.e., its goals, product/market focus, and value proposition). If you believe the firm is unclear on one or more components of its strategy, please explain. Identify specifics about the firm’s capabilities in three areas:
a. Customer Capabilities
b. Operational Capabilities
c. Innovation Capabilities
How would you characterize the overall performance of the firm (see Chapter-1)? Why? Be sure to demonstrate how you used the performance analysis technique, taught in class, to analyze the firm’s overall performance (i.e., show how you integrated information about financial performance, market performance and organizational health of the firm to arrive at your conclusion about the overall performance of the firm).
Here is a suggested OUTLINE for your report:
I. Brief Introduction/Exec Summary
a. Summarize major conclusions about the firm’s strategic orientation, clarity and consistency of strategy components, and overall performance now and trends
b. Briefly describe your approach: what info gathered, how analyzed, what tools, etc.
II. Assessing Firm Strategy
a. Describe the mission, values, and major goals of the firms
b. Describe the firm’s strategic orientation (P/M Focus and Value Prop.)
c. Describe the core activities/major capabilities by the three main areas; you may address capabilities the firm has, those they have but are underutilized, and those that are notably missing
i. Customer capabilities
ii. Operational capabilities
iii. Innovation capabilities
III. Assessing Firm Performance
a. Describe the Operating Performance of the firm (position, profitability, and market performance)
b. Describe the organizational health of the firm
c. Conclusions as to the performance of the firm (performance matrix)
Conclusions on trends – speculate on future of the firm as is; how urgent is the need for change?
