HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT; CHALLENGES AND CHA

Case Assignment

In today’s job market we see many human resource management changes and challenges evolving with the changes in a competitive market environment. One goal of the human resource department is to hire employees that will be as productive as possible, which in turn leads to more revenue and the success of an organization.

In healthcare we see even more challenges; making sure there is enough staff members to care for the patient load, keeping morale high, keeping the budget down, making sure the employee is properly trained and oriented, to name just a few.

First, explain the significance of human resource management and then identify and discuss the following:

1. How organizational restructuring has impacted staffing in healthcare organizations.

2. Does decreasing the number of employees always save an organization/company money? Why or why not?

3. How would you select a “qualified person” for a position? What about a successful leader in healthcare?

4. Discuss other specific human resource issues that are relevant in the healthcare setting.

Note: In preparing your response you should not only draw from the assigned readings but should also incorporate additional research you conduct on the subject.

Be sure to properly cite all references used in preparing your paper.

Assignment Expectations

Number of Pages: 2 – 3

Scholarly Content

Your CASE/SLP and your case assignments are considered scholarly works. Your final work should include a MINIMUM of 10 peer reviewed (scholarly) sources. This does not mean that you must place 10 peer reviewed sources in each module of your CASE/SLP. I anticipate that the nature of the questions which must be answered in this project will result in the accumulation of more than 10 references, but 10 is the minimum number. This means by the end of module 5, I should be able to go back and count AT A MINIMUM a total of 10 scholarly-peer reviewed publications in all of your submitted papers. If you are uncertain what a peer reviewed (scholarly) source is, please  click this link

Appropriate Headings and Paper Flow

Remember that you are preparing a formal academic paper. Your paper should make use of appropriate headings and subheadings. You should not cut & paste the questions posed and answer them like a “Question and Answer” session. Your finished paper should read like an academic paper.

Your assignment will be graded according to the Case and SLP Grading Rubric. (To see the rubric, go to Assessments>Rubrics. Click the arrow next to the rubric name and choose Preview.)

Additional considerations to keep in mind while working on your Case Assignments:

Originality and use of directly quoted material

· The purpose of each assignment is for you to present your understanding and synthesis of the background material and key concepts. Accordingly, this must be accomplished substantially in your own words.

· Use directly quoted material sparingly and only when preserving the exact words of an author is necessary. For purposes of this course, rarely should directly quoted material represent more than 5-10 percent of your entire case paper’s content. Composing a paper patched together from mostly quoted material is not acceptable.

· Be sure to properly reference all directly quoted material and include the in-text citations. All paraphrased information also requires reference citations at the end of the paraphrased section.
