Possible Outline for 2nd Assignment

This is just a suggested “outline”– some of you have asked for help with organizing your group papers, and I thought this would be helpful.

In essay format, present your case analysis regarding the development of an effective organizational culture for your newly merged corporation. Remember 3rd person Only!!!

Your second paper should focus on how your company would handle a hypothetical merger with another company.  The merger has not taken place, but you as the change agent need to prepare contingency or actions plans for handling the fallout from really big change like a merger or buy-out.  Your strategies should address how your company should handle the change process and its effects on the company's employees.  You are trying to be proactive instead of reactive!

Remember - Write in 3rd person only!!!

1) Summary of the case: includes the discussion of current culture of each company, issues regarding the merging of the two companies, impact on the employees, development of new organizational culture (including discussion of NEW cultural artifacts), application of textbook information/jargon, etc.

2) Diagnosis of the case: includes discussion of layoffs, merging of new jobs, creation of new jobs, development of new culture, resistance to change issues (employee and management), globalization, cross-cultural management issues, diversity issues, stress, dissatisfaction, motivation issues, socialization issues/problems, decreased performance, increased turnover and absenteeism, increased counterproductive work behaviors, application of textbook terminology/information/jargon, etc.

3) Proposed solutions: includes strategies for overcoming resistance to change, creating new organizational culture, reducing stress, reducing negative politics and conflict, communication processes, socialization issues and the use of socialization as an integration strategy, suggestions for appropriate organizational design/structure to help facilitate any proposed changes, discussion of ideal solutions: summary of strategies/plans, application of textbook terminology/concepts/jargon, etc.

4) Development of the New and Ideal Culture for the newly merged organization: includes how to create a new culture (i.e., artifacts, textbook jargon, etc.), how development of new culture helps support the strategies that address the organization’s problems, etc.
