Lab Report for LAB 06

BACKGROUND READING:

Review your lecture power point from Chapter 8.

For additional review watch the animation:

PRACTICE:

Use the following pictures of mitosis to learn the appearance of the each stage and the basic terminology and description of each stage of mitosis.

All three arrows represent PROPHASE. The lower left arrow shows the nuclear membrane disappearing, the lower right arrows shows a cell in which the genetic material is thick and condensing, and the upper arrows show a cell in which the nuclei have disappeared.

METAPHASE is very distinctive as demonstrated by this cell. The spindle fibers have formed from the poles of the cell, the genetic material has lined up in the middle of the cell.

ANAPHASE the spindle fibers are pulling the identical chromosomes apart and moving them to opposite sides.

TELOPHASE the nuclei is starting to reform because the genetic material is extending back out into chromatin, in this plant cell the cell plate (at the tip of the arrow) is forming between the nuclei(brownish area) that become the new cell wall. Each new cell will now continue in the cell cycle and grow into larger cells.
