The Urban Dictionary stands as an alternative to this prescriptivist tradition as an online democratic dictionary shaped by the masses. As years progress the slang for each generation changes and creates a language that is difficult to capture and master. Individuals in our generation do not understand older generation terms and older generations do not understand the new slang. For example:

Normal Words

Old Slang

New Slang

A female An attractive woman Money A person to marry A Drunk Person Ask someone to leave immediately

Dame Doll Dough Middle Aisle Ossified Scram

Chick Fine Paper Wifey Material Wasted Beat it

Although there are lots of slang words that have change there are a couple that remain the same for example: A woman who associates with or marries a man for his wealth is associated as a Gold Digger.

Here is sample how to reply.

I believe sites like Urban Dictionary creates confusion amongst everyone because of the fact that anyone can add to the site. Although it is not an official site, the younger audience are more likely to look up words on here just to see what the newest word trending is and use it at school. The problem with doing this is that it can perhaps distort their vocabulary if they consistently use slang terms, creating problems in their communication in certain classes. I have seen this happen during my high school years where a student knows the majority of the words in Urban Dictionary and has no problems putting them in a sentence but when an English exam arrives, they can barely put together a well constructed paragraph without the use of slang.
