1. Identify all IMF between the
· Water and water
· The ion Na+ and water,
· the ‘polar head’ of soap and water, and
· the nonpolar portion of the soap and the water.
2. Explain how the formation of a soap ‘micelle’ helps remove dirt and oil in an aqueous environment.
3. The structure below is cholesterol. It is an ‘advanced’ form of structure drawing where every turn (or corner) represents a C with enough H to make an octet around the C. Notice that there is one ‘alcohol group’ (OH) on the structure. The formula is C27H46O. Given what you know about mostly non-polar molecules, describe why cholesterol can ‘stick’ to your arteries.
