Assessment: Student Prompts/Teacher Directions 1) Individual: Learning Disability Observation Report a) General Practicum Information: i) General Practicum Information: Students' practicum experiences should follow the practicum experience requirements, including the hour requirements for this course on the Practicum Placement Form. ii) Students should fill out the Practicum Placement Form and Observation Record/Activity Log as well as a Teacher Feedback Form. Complete the forms with the names of the schools and grade levels where the observations took place and document the hours spent in the classroom. Submit the forms to the course instructor along with your Benchmark Assessment. iii) Spend 20 hours in a collaborative, resource or self-contained setting that serves individuals with learning disabilities. During this time, note instructional practices and social skills interventions that appear to be effective and ineffective when working with students with learning disabilities. b) Benchmark Assessment: Learning Disability Observation Report and Lesson Plan i) Write a report (1,250–1,500 words) on your classroom observation that includes a vivid picture of the classrooms and the interactions of the students and teachers. The report is to include the following information: (1) A summary of your observations. Describe the classroom arrangement (including physical and academic elements), number of students, lesson topics, etc. Also describe the duration and times of your observations. (2) A description of the instructional strategies you observed. Describe the instruction and feedback routines, how the teacher interacted with students and the environment, what expectations the teacher had and how they were communicated, steps the teacher took to help motivate students, and how the students interacted and communicated in the class. (3) A description of the classroom management strategies you observed. Describe the classroom routines that were in place, the behavior management system and class rules the teacher used, and how the teacher used these along with the classroom arrangement to help manage the students. (4) An evaluation of what you observed. Include what worked and what did not, as well as suggestions for what you might do differently in your own classroom. Incorporate evidence-based research to support your decisions. ii) Write a lesson plan for one student in the class you observed utilizing one of the lesson plan templates available in the Student Success Center. Include a description of the student you chose for the lesson plan. Note: You will not be required to implement this lesson in the classroom. iii) While APA format is not required for the body of this assignment, solid academic writing is expected, and in-text citations and references should be presented using APA documentation guidelines, which can be found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center.
