Project 2: Profile Project description: Using thoughtfully prepared interview questions, you’ll interview a person who works at Tech (Faculty/Administrator/Staff/Contract Employee). You’ll prepare thoughtful interview questions, take careful interview notes, and use those notes to compose a profile essay. Elaboration: In a profile essay, you’ll characterize and discuss some of his/her experiences and draw inferences about your subject’s life. This assignment should be laid out visually to look like a magazine article, with several pictures of the subject. You’ll want to choose an interview subject who is willing and able to talk to you in detail. You will need two interviews with your subject (at least two hours in all). Set up your interviews early, as schedules can change. Your own college or work experiences are not the subject of this essay. Instead, think of yourself as a journalist or historian. Your essay will likely involved several modes of writing, including narration, definition, description, analysis, and interpretation. It must not be a mere transcription of your interviews. This assignment should be laid out to look like a magazine article, with several pictures of the subject. Research: Sources for your essay must include at least one primary source (your interviewee). You may also use secondary sources (published sources such as articles, web sites, or books), but this is not required. All source information included in the essay, including the dates of your interview with your subject, must be documented appropriately, using MLA guidelines, and a Works Cited page is required. You may wish to audio-record your interviews, but it is not required. You are required to use proper informed consent procedures with your interviewee and to take detailed notes of the interviews. Interviews must be conducted live. Email or print questionnaires are forbidden. Form: Essay with a minimum of 4 full pages, maximum of 7 full pages. Essay must be typed and doubled-spaced, with 1-inch margins and normal 11 or 12 point font. Essay should be set up in two column format. The Works Cited page is not included in the 4-page minimum length requirement. Remember, you are to consider this essay an interview for a magazine. Evaluation Criteria: Your essay will be evaluated according to the following criteria and questions.
Organization: How effectively have you composed (put together and connected) the information and details from your interview? To what extent are the individual parts connected to the whole essay? Do not narrate your interview; do not follow your interview’s convenient chronology.

Fullness and Power: Do we get a feeling for what your subject is like as a person? Is there plenty of description and detail about your subject and their work at Tech?
Source Use: How well do you integrate your subject’s words (your source material) in your essay? This essay should include your conclusions about what you learned from your interviewee? In your own words, you must make sense of the source material and data that you gathered for this essay.
Presentation: Is this essay laid out in an appropriate manner (magazine layout) using correct sentence construction and following the conventions of grammar and usage?
