a).Using this data construct a frequency table with 6 classes.
b). Using the information in the frequency table construct a histogram.
(Use EXCEL)
c). Why is a histogram appropriate in this case.
Bonus: Who was the youngest President to be inaugurated? the oldest?
2. Use EXCEL or a TI calculator to simulate the rolling of an honest die 96
times. Record the result on each roll of the die. Present the results of this experiment using a frequency bar graph. If you decided to construct the resultant bar graph on a theoretical basis rather than the empirical results of the experiment, what type of distribution would you expect?
3. The information presented in the following table compares the average price of gold in US dollars to the United States Nation Debt in billions of dollars for the past decade. (Use EXCEL)

a). Prepare a scatter plot for the data presented in the table. In preparing the scatter plot make certain the each axis is appropriately titled. The National Debt values should be on the x-axis and the price of gold on the y-axis. The dates are for clarity do not include them on the scatter plot.
b). Does the scatter plot indicate that a linear correlation exists between the average price of an ounce of gold and the United States National Debt? If you answered yes is the linear correlation positive or negative. Is the linear correlation weak, moderate or strong?
c). Display the trend line on the graph. Use the equation of the trend line to predict the average price of gold in 2013 if the United States National Debt were to rise to 20 trillion dollars as forecasted in 2013.
4. Consider the following data from the automobile industry. All cars produced on a particular day were inspected for defects. The 145 defects found were categorized into 5 categories as follows:
|
Body |
70 |
|
Accessories |
50 |
|
Electrical |
10 |
|
Transmission |
10 |
|
Engine |
5 |
Construct a Pareto bar chart for the data. Why would a Pareto Chart be appropriate here.
5. In the table below, The National Education Association Almanac for Higher Education gives the following average distribution of professional time allocations for college professors.
|
Activity |
