Background
We have 3 different reactant.
“ First one is sodium hydroxide dissolved to determine the enthalpy of solution of sodium hydroxide.
In the second reaction, hydrochloric acid and sodium hydroxide solutions will be mixed to determine the enthalpy of neutralization.
In the third reaction, solid sodium hydroxide will be mixed with hydrochloric acid in order to determine the enthalpy of the solution and neutralization. ”
I did those lab with my group, Jiang Ge, Jia cheng Qianand Jing xuan Zeng. We have good group community and we did different work.
Materials
Because we need to do 3 different lab in one class. So we almost take all materials then we start the lab. And that’s our all materials:
Two 4.8 gram samples of soild sodium hydroxide,NaOH(s).
30.0ml of 4.0 mol dm-3 Sodium hydroxide solution, NaOH(aq).
30.0ml of 4.0 mol dm-3 Hydrochloric acid, HCl(aq).
60.0ml distilled water.
60.0ml of 2.0 mol dm-3 Hydrochloric acid solution.
We did the hard work with my group members and some of the materials are danger because some of them spill to our glove and the glove is going to yellow. So we are going to more careful to do the chemistry lab.
Equipment
We also got some equipment to our lab. We have cold cup calorimeters, thermometers, measuring cylinders, laboratory balance, weighing papers, laboratory and stop watch. Because we need to check the temperature every 20 seconds.
Data
We got 3 different data from the lab. Some of them start very quick then going to slow and going down. Some of them start slow then quick then slow again. Some of them no big change.
They original temperature are almost same. I think it’s because the dorm temperature.

The first reactant is about 27-15=12 degree temperature change.
NaOH →Na+ + OH-
The second reactant is about 56-24=32 degree temperature change.
Na + OH +HCI→H2O+NaCI
The third reactant is about 55-23=32 degree temperature change.
NaOH+HCI→H2O+NaCI
Conclusion
This is a good lab for me. Because in this lab I have a good relationship with my friends. We have good team work and community. That’s a good time in my school life.
For this lab we have some thing not very good. Like the glove problem. We need to take care of our body everywhere. Wear glass for the lab some thing.
One of my lab original number are not match with the dorm temperature. It’s 15 degree. Maybe in that time it’s cold or maybe this is a mistake. This told me I have to be careful with every number in the lab. And I research about original temperature for NaOH2 they probably are the dorm temperature.
Evaluation
In my lab I have some mistake need to fix, too.
1. First is about the lab is thermometer. We need to wait about the original temperature.
2. Second is about the timing. Because it’s not very sure at every 20 seconds. We have a little mistake about this.
3. Third is about the lab safety. Because when I take some materials. Some of them is spill to my glove and it’s going to be yellow. I need to be careful next time.
Finale we got a very successful teamwork. And we got some experience.
