Philippians 1: 20-21; 27 20 "According to my earnest expectation and hope that I will not be put to shame in anything, but that with all boldness, Christ will even now, as always, be exalted in my body, whether by life or by death. For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain...Only conduct yourself in a manner worthy of the Gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or remain absent, I will hear of you that you are standing firm in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel." The apostle Paul had set a vision in the first chapter of Philippians to live for the Gospel of Jesus Christ and to preach, teach, and conduct himself by it continually. His statement in verses 20-21 clearly communicates his "vision" statement: Not be ashamed and to live for Christ. In verse 27, he then encourages the Christians in Philippi, who were experiencing a lot of persecution, that no matter the situation to always "conduct yourself in a manner worthy of the Gospel… for the faith of the Gospel." Though this seems fundamental, I know and have seen supposed Christian workers and business men who, when the opportunity arose, were unfair and unethical in their business actions and conduct. Though they stated with their mouth their commitment to "live for Christ" they sacrificed these so called principles and standards when they could use the foreign law, language, or customs to their advantage. As Christian business men and women, we must first and foremost be committed to our biblical foundations and principles and live for Christ no matter the cost. This should not be a title we give ourselves that we do not, from the heart, live by completely. No matter what it is that you do, where you work, or where you go, yours and my vision should be that in all things, in all situations, and to all people represent, communicate, conduct, and live out unashamedly the Gospel and Principles of Jesus Christ. We are his ambassador and his bondservant before all else. What are your thoughts and responses to this reading as it relates to international business?
