Aziz: how is your day going so far?

Ali: actually not pretty bad because I have learned new techniques in my engineering class which is graphical communication design. (He zipped up his jacket because he looks cold and there was a pigeon walking right by us).

Aziz: what are your hobbies and interest?

Ali: Racing, drifting, playing WOW (world of war craft), playing cards with friends.

Aziz: what is the most favorite thing about WOW?

Ali: That it is a role playing game and because that it never end because every few months a new update or a patch is released and I love the game because it helped to teach me English and I am playing this game for almost 6 years now, I have 6 characters my main character is a warlock level 90 and 90 is the level cap (suddenly he wore his sunglasses and start talking about the game) and he owns 5 other characters.

Aziz: How and when did you start playing the game?

Ali: When I was young about 6 years ago I went to my cousin house and I saw him playing this game and I asked him what game is this and he introduced me to the game and let me to play for a bit, the game was just released and it looked like fun, so when I went home I begged my father and mother to buy me the game and after begging for almost a month they bought it to me so I don’t annoy them anymore.(he offer me a cigarettes and start talking about Corvette and their sounds system because a Corvette was passing by us )

Aziz: How did the game improve your English?

Ali: It improved my English because when I was I knew little English and the game was an online game which required me to communicate with other players who only talked and wrote English, so with time I learned a lot of vocabulary and I learned how to type really fast and how to use the sentences correctly and if I had not played this game I guess my English would be bad and I wouldn’t have gotten a 6 in my IELTS test. Because in our schools in Kuwait the English we get thought is weak and the teachers who teach us has broken English. (He lit up a cigarette and started to talk about the old days of playing, but suddenly he turned off his cigarettes because there was children sit next to us)

Aziz: Do you consider yourself-addicted to the game?

Ali: Yes, because for the past six years I have spent a lot of money and time on this game and I am still spending money and time on this game until this day. I used to spend almost 7 hours on the game each day when I was young. ( he was looking at the kids next to us playing a game called ninja which is unfamiliar to him and he told me that he misses his two nephews)

Aziz: Where and with whom do you like playing the game?

Ali: I like to play the game at the net café I used to go to with my old friends Ahmad and Khaled, we used to stay at the net café until 12 am when we was young. I like to play it with my friends because we are able to do quests together which are mission and we are able to group up and fight other people and sometime go to torments.

Aziz: What kind of things do you do in the game?

Ali: Characters usually start with level one and you have to level them up by doing quests or doing dungeons which are a place that you have to fight enemies or computers. And at first you only had to reach the level cap which is 70 but year after year a new patch is released and now the level cap is 90. I have 6 characters which are all caped at level 90 and that took a lot of time and effort. (One of his friends came and sat with us for a while and starts talk about cars and drifting and shared some videos).

The best thing to do in the game is to be a raid leader a raid leader is the guy who leads a group of 10 or 25 men into a place to fight bosses and to lute them to get new and better gear . When I usually go to a raid I usually call my friends so they can assist me in managing 25 men and so they can tell each and every one what to do.

Aziz: What type of characters is in the game?

Ali: There are a lot of races and characters in the game; there are casters, melee attackers, caster who are healers, and tanks who usually hold the boss so he can hit them because the tank has a lot of armor and he can stand a lot of damage taken and the healers are the people who keep him healed up and make sure he never dies and the casters and melee attackers who make sure to bring the boss down.

Aziz: How big is the game?

Ali: The game is really big it has 3 different worlds and each world has tons of maps that why I mention that the game never ends.

Aziz: Have you done something bad in the game or is it possible to do that?

Ali: Yes you can because one time I ninjad(steal) an item and I was banned of playing for a day which almost killed me.

Aziz: What was the atmosphere in the net café you used to attend?

Ali: The net café was the most fun place to go because a lot of things happened there, I saw a lot of crazy people shouting words from the game and jumping because they won an item and I used to do that some time. And sometimes friends used to argue a lot and some of them fought for a little because one of those guys did something wrong the game and it was a 2(vs)2 match and they lost the game so they started to shout on each other which was funny to watch because they were fighting over a game .

And sometimes we used to do anything to hang out with each other and play we used to call taxis and sometimes they don’t come take us and sometimes they take us and then ask for more money which I don’t pay them and then they drop me at the main street and I have to find someone else to take me there and this happened couple of times. (One of his favorite songs was playing, so he started mumbling same of the lyrics).

Aziz: what other video games do you play?

I play Battlefield, counter strike, GTA, Kill zone and FIFA

Aziz: do you think the video games have a bad effect on you? How?

Yes, it consumes my time and makes me neglect my studies and sometimes it has bad effects in my health it made me wear eyeglasses and gain weight.

Aziz: will you still play video games in future?

Yes, I will play video games in future and I will encourage my kids to play video games when they finish their homework because it will help them to improve their English skills.

Aziz: What is your greatest fear?

Ali: Failing in school and not being able to assist my family in time of need.

Aziz: What is your greatest regret?

Ali: I regret studying abroad but this regret will hopefully make me successful. (He was playing with his rosary).
