DAY OF SERVICE AT ROUND ROCK SERVING CENTER (RRSC) NOTES

While sorting items for distribution noticed the sell by date had passed. (Use by date)

Round Rock Serving Center paid to purchase food from the Capital Area Food Bank (a large regional food bank)

RRSC has purchase to obtain food from stores, restaurants which get a tax break for discounting the food

Assisted Customers

· Evaluated the needs of clients-RRSC does not restrict access based on income. RRSC is needs based provider

· Ethics of a person getting assistance and carrying a Coach Purse

· Careful to take voucher-good for only one visit-cannot be reused

· Escort 1-5 people thru serving area

· Distribution is limited based on availability of the food items

· Item distribution is not based on size of family but limited to a certain number of food items for the visit

· Clients can only visit for assistance once a month

· I assisted a woman who could not read select her items

· Had a paid employee, retired military, very caring about clients, talked or 2 hours about the center and the ethics of how food is obtained and distributed. Never enough to go around

· Food items that are donated are the “clean out the pantry” items

· Not very healthy

· Produce very limited

Center is designed to help people feed their family between food stamp allocations

Diapers are in high demand. This item is seldom donated and cannot be purchased with food stamps.

If Center is out of item i.e. diapers on the day you visit the is no rain check for diapers even though no diapers this counts as your visit and you cannot return till next month

Center assisted homeless women with 5 kids find apartment, furniture job

Ethics question

People who donate claim more than they actually donated

I knew Director so I was able to do my 6 hours for class without training

Couch purse to assistance center

Admin expenses-number of paid employees seemed high

Some volunteers just sat around did nothing

Grocery store donated bread and pastry so there is excess volunteers allowed to take item home. I picked up bread from store donated some to people begging on the roads before I got back to center
