Book Title/Chapter/Pages:

Survey: Look at the headings, subheadings, pictures, charts, graphs, vocabulary words and chapter summary/What’s the Point? Write down a minimum of 5 things you found during the survey. Include definitions for vocabulary words.

Based on your survey, what do you already know about the topic?

What do you predict you might learn? (Minimum 3 items)

Questions: Turn each heading and subheading into a question using who, what when, where, why, or how.

Read and Recite (by section): Actively read the text. Pay attention to information that will answer your questions. Close the book and answer the questions you developed in your own words. Check your answers and revise if needed.

Record (by section): After reciting a satisfactory answer to your questions, record it in your notes (post-its, margin notes). When you have finished the entire section of the chapter, move on to the next and continue until the chapter is complete. When you have finished this process, you should have at least one question and one answer per section of your textbook chapter. These notes will become helpful as you study for an exam.

Review and Reflect: Now reflect on what you have grasped from the complete reading. Comprehend what is important and review the important points or major ideas. What do you know now that you didn’t know before? What do you need/want to know more about? What are you confused about?
