English Lesson Plan teaching 6 action verbs to a mono lingual class of 8 year olds.
Teaching aids include; actual fruit (realia), pictures, fruit, laptop, images, whiteboard.
45 min lesson plan.
Activity 1 Introduce students to the English lesson by showing, common nouns like water melon, banana, papaya, bowl of fruit salad, picture of a singer and a dancer and a smile.
Then engage students in speaking words out loud and drill the words.
Watermelon, papaya, banana, fruit salad, singer, dancer and Teacher Helen is smiling.
Evaluation T 5mins S 3 mins
Activity 2 Show students how to pronounce the verbs below Dance, sing, eat, wash, shimmy, smile.
He dances, She sings, We eat, Teacher cuts, I wash, We dance, They shimmy, We smile, They eat, and repeat chorally several times using, he, she, they, I, we.
t\T -5mins S 4 plus mins
Activity 3 Sing and dhow the song to students so they are familiar and can identify some of the verbs in the song. Divide class into groups and let each group identify and the verbs and reward the highest scoring group with some fruit!!
T-S time 5 mins
Activity 4
Still in groups let the students identify to themselves and friend some of the verbs they ahave learned. Lastly let them compare with the other groups in the class. 3 mins.
Activity 5 Engage the pupils in reading some of the sentences below.
My teacher is cutting the watermelon.
He likes dancing and singing.
SShe is peeling fruit.
They like eating fruit salad.
All of us are singing and smiling.
Make sure the students understand the verbs.

Activity 6
I engage the students in oral narratives and short tountwisters in a short song especiallly in a choral manner, changing our nouns as the students become more familiar with their new vocabularly.
We sing using body movements, arms, hands and face, then whole body shimmy.
It goes like this;
Watermelon, watermelon hands held out straight, palms down,
Papaya, papaya turn arms over and shake hands.
Banana one arm comes to your opposite shoulder, and other arm to opposite shoulder,
then we all shimmy times 2 singing fruit salad, fruit salad.
The children smile,, laugh, giggle at each other shouting teacher, teacher, again, again. I am in Cambodia so I go to the market to buy differednt fruit (realia) to change the nouns in the song so the students are constantly learning more nowns to the verbs we have just focused on.

Activity 7 I invite individual students from the class to come up the front and they eagerly, (new verbs written on board, (runs, Hurries, rushes, quickly, fast, eagerly, shyly, boldly confidently)and we review at a later time) to the front to sing hs or her version of the song to the class. I ask the action and the class answers.
Activity 8 I engage the students in activities, like wash, cut, peel, dance, eat, sing, shimmy. They have fun learn more and more verbs eg, chop, dice, eagerly, carefully,
Evaluation T-SS 8 minutes
Activity 9 In class we then read out loudly and chorally drilling the verbs we have learned, wash, cut, peel, dance, eat, sing shimmy. They have fun aand get to know more verbs.
Evaluation Teacher-Student 8 mins
Activity 9 In class we read out aloud, wash, cut, peel, dance, eat, sing, shimmy. Then I show pictures (some of them I actually in reality took another day when teaching them the song). We describe the action verbs together and all have to peel a banana and eat it.

Activity 11 pupils sing in chorus before me and other class members "live in concert"
Evaluation time T-S 1 min each or more depending how eager they are and they are eager as they love to dance and sing.
End of Lesson I show them on my computer themselves singing live in concert!!!
Challenges may include, understanding of vocabularly, reading problems, attention distraction, calming them to wait their turn..
Great fun...
So Kim it has to be very prescise and English as a 2nd Language base.
