Fundamentals of Networking-II

MIS 273

Course description:

This is the second introduction to networking course and is intended to provide you with a basic understanding of network operating systems. We will use Microsoft’s Window Server 2012 Enterprise for the course. While you will need to learn specific features of this product, the course is intended to teach principles of network management that would useful in any network environment. The text for the course is a reference manual. It has a lot of information about the product, but you will most certainly need additional resources to help you understand the topics in the course. It is assumed you have a working knowledge of the Windows personal computer and that you have had some training in network fundamentals.

Pre-requisite:

Prerequisite: MIS 272 with grade “C” or better.

Course Objectives

At the end of this course, the student should be able to:

· Build on the concepts taught in MIS 272

· Teach practical aspects of Network Management through the use of MS Server 2012

· Use practical labs to teach students the need for an organized, top-down approach to network management

· Teach design and maintenance of the Active directory and the network domain that it services

· Use company case study approach to course and labs

· Provide solid teaching and workshop experience with the following technologies

· Active Directory design, management and maintenance

· Network domains, domain controllers, and DNS as it applies to the network domain

· Client server and terminal server computing models

· Fundamentals of network security from the NOS point of view

Textbook and/or Resources

1) 70-410 Installing and Configuring Windows Server 2012 with Lab Manual , ISBN #978-1-118-65617-4

2) At least one 64-bit PC to be used as a test server

3) At least one Windows PC running Professional or higher

Course Schedule
