Let’s pick up trash

All different types of waste are considered dangerous to our safety, environment, and economy. We have beautiful streets, gardens, beaches and rivers around the world. Natural environments are the best way for people to look at a country, and often the first things that visitors judge when visiting a country for the first time. These places should always be clean and constantly taken care of. For example in Santa Monica Beach, people worldwide would sacrifice anything to spend time there, while people who have access to it ruin its beautiful appearance by leaving their trash everywhere. The behavior of picking up trash should become a habit; we should clean our surroundings by picking up trash in public places. But unfortunately in a lot of different societies around the world, people who pick up trash are looked-down at and are being judged for doing something people should feel obligated and proud to do.

According to the author Bob Waldrop, “Litter and trash in public places is a leading indicator of collapse”. It suggests that people don’t care about their community and that the public authorities are so overwhelmed they can’t or won’t do anything about it.  One thing everybody can do to make their community a better place is to simply pick up trash in public places and dispose of it properly.” Picking up trash in a public place is a good thing to do. If a man picks up an empty soda can and throws it in the trashcan, this behavior will not only be useful to the environment and the appearance of the place, but it might inspire others to change their idea of looking at trash and maybe start doing the same thing. Cleaning your surrounding area is like cleaning your house; you do it for a good purpose, to stay clean and feel comfortable being around it. So picking up trash is a very noble behavior and we all should do it for the love of the environment, for the sake of a clean one. If everyone started picking up trash and disposing it correctly we’ll have no waste because everything will be recycled and repurposed, trash will reduce and eventually disappear. Every place will look beautiful and more attractive to look at. And more importantly, pollution will decrease which will lower the rate of lung diseases like Asthma in a lot of places around the world.

The website environmentalistseveryday.org wrote: “If we put all of the solid waste collected in the U.S. in a line of average garbage trucks, that line of trucks could cross the country, extending from New York City to Los Angeles, more than 100 times. Even though there are professional collectors who work in specialist companies in picking and recycling trash, it is very beneficial for as many people to participate as possible. We all should clean not because it’s the law or because we have to, but rather because we love our environment and don’t want to ruin it. Instead of ignoring trash and looking down at people who pick it up we should complement them and learn from them. People should know that spreading a wrong behavior of leaving trash everywhere will pollute the world and lead it to an unwanted disaster. We should save our planet by looking at the idea of picking up trash positively and encourage our families and friends to do it. People should consider this idea because it’s an important suggestion with big potential future implications towards a clean trash-free environment.

In the book of Garbology by Edward Humes, he said: “That’s my challenge, I’m going to suggest five things anyone can do to be less wasteful.” He suggests a strategy of five things anyone can do to be less wasteful. First is to “refuse” extra unneeded materials to reduce waste. Second thing is to buy used or refurbished goods because they are always cheaper. Humes’s third suggestion is to stop buying bottled water because it’s a waste. The fourth is to say no to plastic grocery bags. Although it won’t save the world, it will help the oceans. The fifth suggestion is to focus on cost of ownership, which states that saving up for purchases of things that are more durable, long-lived, reliable and efficient saves money over time and radically reduces the waste we produce.

In conclusion, the media and the government have to always aware people about trash pollution and all the different ways to avoid it. And always remind people to choose to be clean and make this beautiful behavior of picking up trash a habit. People should love cleaning and the government can ease this process for people by making it fun and organizing different volunteering trips or events with rewards and big prizes. These efforts will increase the hype and will spread the word quickly. We should choose not to litter, ever. It is not an easy job but it can be accomplished and its results will be great in the long term and for our future generations. It is definitely a major issue that is very worthy of our attention and efforts.
