Thesis Statement and Outline
A thesis statement is usually 1-3 sentences that give the main idea of your entire essay. Often, but not always, it will appear somewhere near the beginning of your essay, perhaps at the end of the introduction paragraph.
A topic sentence is the main idea of a paragraph. It is often the first or the last sentence of the paragraph.
Use this handout to create an OUTLINE of your paper. Fill in your working thesis statement and topic sentences. Include information about the sources you will use for each part of your paper.
