Introduction

During the course of their studies, most of the students opt for employment in companies which offers short employment opportunities to the students with some particular skills. Communication students can for instance look for media companies like the television companies and radio stations. In these companies, the said students will have the chance of honing their skills while at the same time offering the much required labor to the organization. The objective of every company is to get competent employees who will always deliver the best services. Consequently, the much valued competence can be obtained or tapped from the students especially if they are given a chance to go and further their knowledge and skills. In this case, this paper will argue that the media companies has the best chance of bringing up the very students into productive and competent employees who can push forward the agenda of success for the same companies. The main argument in the paper is that by giving these employees some tuition reimbursement, the companies will be on the right track towards ensuring that they have molded great media personalities. On their side, the employees will also have to do their part of going back to school courtesy of the reimbursement and gaining more knowledge and upgrading their academic level. Once they have done this, there are a lot of benefits that they will get. For instance, they will receive an increment in their salary scale and even promotion.

The need for Tuition Reimbursement

It has been discovered that it takes someone more than the education offered in the normal school curriculum in order to lead a big financial institution. In any case, business schools have been criticized of producing graduates who rarely deliver much at the work place. In other words, these graduates have poor managerial skills. Powerful multinational corporations for instance, have collapsed because of this.

Consider the case of the General Motors. This multinational corporation is headed by a Harvard-schooled MBA CEO. Despite the trust that people had for the CEO, the foundation that the CEO had had not been stable. That is why General Motors fell despite its global size. The Harvard-schooled MBA holders who were heading General Motors neither could nor properly manage the corporation that had a stable foundation, resulting in the collapse of the same corporation in 2008 (Edwards & Martinez, 2004). Therefore, as students go for their internship, it is prudent that the managers of these companies consider offering them with opportunity to get involved in after school programs that help in reinforcing their workplace performance. Through this, the students will be adequately prepared to tackle any hard decision in the company due to the extensive exposure (Fashola, 2002).

New Professional Opportunities

As far as the field of communication is concerned, furthering studies through tuition reimbursement will ensure that the students acquire new professional opportunities that are highly demanded in the media houses. For instance, one can go and add strategic management on top of his communication degree. Such a person will qualify to go into managerial position once he or she is done with the strategic management. There are other areas that a person with bachelor’s degree in communication can go and pursue. These include masters in business administration, and project management. These areas will give him or her access to new professional opportunities in the managerial capacity.

Types of careers people with the degree often have

The people who have studied communication in the university have a wide range of careers to choose from. This is because communication is a broad field. Among these career opportunities are news anchors, radio presenters, comedians, artists, secretaries in several organizations, sport commentators, video editors and journalists.

Benefits to the company, like increased retention

It is very clear that after school programs form a powerful avenue for better job performance of employees in any given company. As many companies strategize by cutting down the traditional employment benefits like the health insurance covers in order to boost their profitability, others have leant the secret for adding value not only to the employees but also to the company by offering them tuition reimbursement. Several human resource professionals have testified the need for offering paid professional growth opportunities like the conferences, college courses, continuing education, and seminars to the employees. Of importance in this case are the employees from the Bachelor’s Degrees in communications (Edwards & Martinez, 2004). For example, every student in the communication class appreciate the need for investing in the future earning potential as the best option for searching secure, safe, high yield, and comfortable investment opportunities. If we augment or add our credentials, training, and skills, we would most likely be in the position to realize our true potential in the company

Earning potential of people who have the degree

Most of us will want to be better paid or promoted in this company. For this to occur, we all understand that an added skill or a higher degree will place us in the better position. Therefore, we really call upon the company to consider fully paying or supporting our educational endeavors financially to boost our productivity in the company and as a result improve the profitability of the company (Kennedy, 2005). There is a genuine need for us to further our education. Considering the current situation in the job market, it is clear that the rate of unemployment is very low. Consequently, those people who have furthered their studies beyond the bachelor’s degrees have higher earning potential. A person who has some additional education apart from degree can earn an average of $1700 and $3000 per month. This can be upto 50 percent increase from a degree holder. Therefore, tuition reimbursement can be of great value to the employee

Conclusion

If all the employees who are pursuing their bachelor’s degrees in communication are therefore, given the chance to go and further their studies in the various fields through the tuition reimbursement, your company will not regret since the employees will come back with additional skills and knowledge that is more professional. This is because they would have specialized in the different fields. Decision-making in the company will therefore, become quite easier (Fashola, 2002). The employees who have also benefitted from this program will also be an intellectual capital to your company. Lastly, the new skill set will be most likely to be born from the employees. On our side, we are very willing to invest and sacrifice our time, effort, and energy in bringing more value not only to your company, but also to ourselves. Apart from this, we would also appreciate the company’s support as we look forward to achieve the objective (Kennedy, 2005).
