Grading Descriptions:

Chapter Exams: There will be 7 tests during the term. Each test covers a group of chapters. The tests will be given on-line and will be multiple choice. You will be given a specific window in which you must take the test and the test will be timed. Be sure you have read and understand the online testing rules posted in this syllabus. Failure to follow these rules may result in a 0 for that exam.

Department Exam:

All students in all sections of MAR3023 will be taking a Department of Marketing Exam.

Your exam will be given online in Blackboard on April 21, 2014

The exam will be open for 24 hours: 8am 4/21 to 8am 4/22

If you do not take the exam on the date and during the times specified you will be given a zero for the exam, no exceptions.

There are no make ups for this exam except in the case of medical, religious, or official FAU business reasons that prohibited you from using the internet during the entire time the exam was open. Documentation will be required and should be sent to Dr. Root: [email protected]

The exam will consist of 44 multiple choice questions, one from each learning objective in the following chapters:

5: Target Market Segmentation and Evaluation

8: Reaching Global Markets

10: Product, Branding, and Packaging Concepts

12: Pricing Fundamentals

14: Marketing Channels and Supply Chain Management

16: Integrated Marketing Communication

You will have 1 hour and 10 minutes to answer 44 questions. If you are registered with OSD and need a time accommodation, you will be given an exam with the appropriate accommodation.

It is expected that you take these tests alone. If you are found to take these tests with others, you will be in violation of the Honor Code and subject to severe penalties, including expulsion from the University. It is further understood that these are open book tests. But do not believe that this will make the tests easier. The tests are timed and you will not have time to look up concepts.

There is NO forced completion. The exam will allow you to exceed the time limit. But, you will have 1 point deducted from your final score (number of questions answered correctly) for each minute over the allotted time.

The exam will say multiple attempts are allowed. They are NOT allowed. If you take the exam more than once, you will receive a 0 for the entire exam.

If you exit the exam due to technical issues, you may re-enter to complete the exam without penalty until you go over the time limit. Once you start the exam the timer begins.  You cannot start the exam and then go back and finish later because the timer continues to run.  If you get kicked out of the exam you must go right back in.

The exam will say you can save it and finish it later. You may NOT. You must complete the exam in one sitting or you will receive a 0 on the entire exam.

You will not be allowed to go over the exam after you complete it.

For all known technical issues, it is your responsibility to read the home page of Blackboard carefully prior to starting the exam. All technical issues are your responsibility unless caused by Blackboard or a university computer. If you have technical issues with Blackboard you will need to IMMEDIATELY submit a ticket with the Help Desk (see the home page of Blackboard for information) and contact Dr. Root at: [email protected].

Simulation Game: You will take a 10 question quiz based on the New Shoes case. This quiz will be taken online at Interpretive.com. No late quizzes will be accepted. There are no make-ups for this missed quiz except as specified in this syllabus. There is no time limit while taking this quiz. Code of Conduct rules do apply if you are found taking this quiz with someone else or if you have someone else take this quiz.

You will also play several rounds as Brand Manager for your athletic shoe against a group of students in the class. You will be ranked within this group from 100 for 1st place and 70 for last place. Exact grades between 100 and 70 will be determined once the number of students playing the game has been set. If you show a cumulative negative profit, you will automatically receive a 70 for profit, regardless of your ranking. You will receive a 0 for the game if you do not buy it or don’t play it. Code of Conduct rules apply if you are found playing the game with someone else or if you have someone else play the game.

Optional Final: An optional final will be given for those that missed an exam or wish to improve a score on a chapter exam. The exam will be given during finals week and cover all 18 chapters. The mode in which this final is given may change with adequate notice by the instructor.

Online Testing Rules:

Exams will be open online in Blackboard (look for the Exam tab) during the days specified in the schedule. Chapter Exams open at 8am and close at 11:59pm.

If you do not take the exam on the date and during the times specified you will be given a zero for the exam, no exceptions.

If the graduate assistant cannot help you, you may see me within one week of the exam closing. After the one week period, the exam will no longer be available for review.

If you choose to wait until the last minute to complete and submit the exam, you assume the full risks and penalties associated with that choice.
